Fenn McLaws was a distant Canadian relation to minor aristocracy back in England. When finally Toad of Toad Hall broke his neck in a foolhardy move with his newfangled aeroplane, it developed that Fenn was the only heir. She moved to England and took up residence in the Hall, bringing a fresh presence to the Riverbank as Lady Toad-McLaws.
This is all based on the novel Wind in the Willows, by Kenneath Grahame, first published in 1909. (Yu may be more familiar with Toad from the Disney short feature.) It seemed invevitable Toad would sooner or later pull one crazy stunt too many, and an heir would have to be found.
I have a drawing also of Fenn with other relatives and some additional background, but it remains unscanned.
