A clutch of eggs recently hatched for me, 4 pastel morphs out of 4 eggs - can't ask for better than that! :)

Yes. :) The recessive traits are the ones where there are hets (who carry the gene but don't show it). It gets even more confusing when there are genes that cause 'visible hets' who aren't always visually different... and possible hets and ungh!
I definitely hit the odds on this one, though. :) After a kind of frustrating breeding season it was a welcome surprise.

Ball pythons are amazingly calm snakes (captive bred ones, anyways - though most of the wild caught ones I've worked with have been amazingly well mannered, too). Their defensive mechanism is to curl into a ball and hide their head, instead of defensively striking - which makes them ideal for a new snake owner or for use as an educational animal. :) (Hence the name, ball python). With regular handling they become less shy, but they are in general a very slow and inoffensive species when it comes to interacting with them.
Buy a pastel and make a bumble bee yourself! ^.^ That's what I did, it will be another year or two before my female is large enough to breed, though.
The hybrids are amazing - I have a pair of womas and they were purchased with the idea of eventually making another 'Wall'. Such a spectacular snake! It's crazy they can hybridize at all.
And thank you! It's a zoo here, but I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

I have seen them! They are really fantastic. With the new morphs in blood pythons, I can imagine some incredible possibilities with the hybrids there, too. I got to see a few of them in person at NERD's various show displays and the photos just don't do them justice.
Snakey christmas gifts are the best kind. :)

i really want to start on my own blood/ball hybrids at some point, down here the bloods are fairly cheap, but i would want to have a morph ball python and see just what i could get i was hoping for my first project to be a het for orange ghost/sumatran cross, but i had to let my blood go as i had no time to keep happy, so he became quite the littlebiter, although he had an excellant appetite and gorgeous colors
Yeah, the bloods can definitely be fiesty! Given their size, they can pack a punch if they become an angry adult.
Orange ghosts are one of my favorite morphs - I hope to hatch out some next year. Along with caramel albinos... the caramel glow is just stunning!
I wish there was more interest in the hybrids - the negative reception they have with many herp people has kept me away from them for the most part. But I think it's pretty silly - messing with the genetics as we are already, these aren't snakes that are going to be released back into the wild. If no one experimented, we'd have no german shepherds or golden retrievers. :>

those caramel albinos are high dollar, i wish you luck with that. http://roussisreptiles.com/htmlindex3.html
that's about the only breeder i've seen to be real enthuasiastic with the hybrids. and you're absolutlely right, i see no reason for the big fuss over a hybrid, it's just another gorgeous animal that should be readilly embraced by fellower herpers.

The problem is most breeders HATE hybrids because you don't know genetically how it will effect the snake amoung other key factors. Even some breeders who feed live reject hybrids as a bad idea. I personally think the hybrid is really ugly looking and pulls some of the worst traits from both snakes especially temperament wise.
Some ball pythons actually like to come out and play. This is junior, who hatched from an egg from parents that have been our companions for decades:

I think most of the reputation for poor eating habits comes from the wild caught ball pythons that have poured into this country by the millions. Those tend to be difficult to acclimate, shy, in poor health, and very difficult to get feeding.
If you buy a baby BP that is captive bred and feeding, there's really no problem getting them to eat. :) Some of mine are just as voracious as my boas. They do go off feed as adults during breeding season (usually) but they are so slow metabolism ambush hunters that it is normal (and keeps them from getting obese) and just means one less mouth to feed over the winter! :)

I have an adult het clown male from NERD, was hoping for poss. hets this year but didn't get them. Next year I should have some poss.het caramels which would be super reasonable (close to normal BP prices) since they would just be poss. hets. I have a 100% het pair, but the female isn't ready to breed yet (the male is 6 years old though). Just poke me if you're ever looking for something, I've got a lot of different boas and BPs I'm working with. :)
Oh they're awesome. The little spots on the back are so pretty. And on very VERY rare occasion they give birth to the Black Eyed Luecistic Ball Python. Omg... They're so beautiful I hope to be able to breed mine some day. And get that one. They are pure white but not albino. It's amazing. And they're pupils are red.. I want one so badly..
dude, post more snake pics. I've raided what you have so far, I need more drama pictures to paint. If you have a cool photo, I'll probably doodle it. I'm itching to paint more snakes. Frogs and lizards have been dominating my recent speed sketches. I had a thorny devil sketch that didn't come out at all to my liking, I have a feeling it's time to switch to the no legged variety
I usually don't post many snake pics here (since most people watch my FA account for art) but I've got some more up on my website http://foxexotics.com and will be posting many more there in the future. My website at http://foxloft.com/exotics has some for now as well. :)
