Some ideas and concepts my mind has been tossing around since "Matton."
These are manticores, a species of demon with the outward appearance of a domestic house cat of any distinction except for the tail which can either be the head of a snake or a scorpion's stinger, the breeds being serpentine and scorpio retrospectively. They are often used as messengers, guides, and quick executioners. Sometimes even all three at once. Not everyone is suitable of commanding one. They are a clever and aloof species who often dismiss requests or pretend to follow along simply for the delight of turning the stakes around on the assumed employer. One must either intrigue them enough with the job or they must be intrigued by the one who is doing the offering, either by intellect or morale. They can not be bribed.
They are fiercely social with one another despite spending most of their days on their own. It is not unusual to see them gathered together into large groups.
Manticores easily infiltrate victim's homes. Their deadly tails will either remain out of sight or can be disguised until the perfect opportunity arises to swiftly and efficiently inject death with a toxic sting or bite.
