What's with me and newts lately? I have no idea.
Anyways, here's a simple newty fellah I came up with. He's not textured yet, as I haven't been able to find/make a decent texture and map it for the little guy.

It's looking great so far! I like the back ridges. I experimented a bit with 3D modeling a few years back, and it was really difficult for me. I think I managed to do a blob once. I was using Blender which is without a doubt the most pain in the butt program I've ever used, partially because it seems to be designed with a 3-button mouse in mind, and because the tutorials were written with PC commands. I don't think there was an undo feature or a normal way to save either.
.....I'm just complaining about programs tonight. Na, most of them I've liked. :)

Looks great so far :). You could try using some procedural textures. They're great for organic models as they don't have any seams. Another option though a little more challenging is to use a UV map. Basicly it unwraps your character like unwrapping the skin of an orange and lays it flat. After that you go into photoshop and paint the skin, and then it'll re-wrap your character.
