My first attempt at hyper-realism, and first big personal image in quite a while. It was partly inspired by an older piece (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/622857/), and partly by this beautiful fellow here: http://picturebypali.deviantart.com.....Wolf-257060702 - my original concept had him peering through some branches at the viewer, but I couldn't decide which version I liked better, so I'm uploading both.

this turned out so incredibly beautiful and so realistic! I have always admired your painting skills, but this one just outdoes them all! I also really love the other version you put on DA-the leaves are awesome on it! I love the eyes and the nose detail, and of coarse, all those detailed fur strokes....Oo
Wonderful job!
Wonderful job!
Stunning~ This looks like it was exceptionally difficult!
Although the image is incredible, I think that the especially most realistic parts of it are the wolf's eyes and the soft, short fuzzy fur around the center, forehead, and muzzle of the face. The nose is spot-on, too. I think that peering through branches at the viewer would have been an excellent touch, like a chance encounter to stare into such pretty eyes, but there is still magic without the branches. (Even after looking at the version with branches though...I can't choose a favorite between the two.) That face is so lovely. It really is just like a photograph, and not just from the view of the thumbnail. Also, it is so neat to see how far you have come in both anatomy, texture and lighting since four years ago in on of the images that inspired you for this.
I am in no way, shape or form on the same level of both sheer skill and talent as you, and this hyper-realism attempt is distances beyond awesome, but if I could make a small note without offense? As soft and pretty as the ear fluff looks (I really, really enjoy it. I wish I could pet it!), there is something about it that seems not quite as realistic as the rest of the features on the wolf. It's almost too flowing and gentle, perhaps? Maybe this is not helpful, ahh~
This is so lovely. <3

Thank you so much :) As for difficulty, it just felt right, everything seemed to work out. It took time and patience, but didn't seem particularly difficult or painful, y'know? Guess I got lucky :b
"I think that the especially most realistic parts of it are the wolf's eyes and the soft, short fuzzy fur around the center, forehead, and muzzle of the face."
Yeah, I agree. Usually, I have the most trouble with really short fur, but at this level of detail, short fur became the easier kind, and the longer fur became more difficult!
"Also, it is so neat to see how far you have come in both anatomy, texture and lighting since four years ago in on of the images that inspired you for this."
*nods* Thank you :) I'd like to do one of those "before and after" memes or something with another image, just for my own satisfaction, y'know?

"there is something about it that seems not quite as realistic as the rest of the features on the wolf. It's almost too flowing and gentle, perhaps?"
Likely, it's "too perfect." Often times, longer fur will have errant hairs that just kinda go off in funny directions, or criss-cross with each other, or are bent and scraggly looking. Really good realism often has a nice balance between that, and artistically groomed. I need to work on that still :b
But yes, you're right! Thanks for the wonderful comment and critique :)

I know it has been a while since you created this masterpiece (It is truly exquisite!), and that I have recently found and started watching your account, but this piece is exactly the level of realism I have been looking for to grace the wall of my office! (Bond Street suited Wolf in a CEO style portrait)
However, after reviewing your waiting list, I am curious as to the time frame/length of the list? Also, besides digital, do you also work in acrylics on canvas?

Thank you very much :) This piece was sort of exceptional in that I did my best to take no shortcuts, and to really, really focus in on detail. To help make my work more affordable, I'll often use brushes or textures to help expedite the process, and won't typically spend this much time on a piece.
Turnover times vary wildly with the response I get from a client, and from project to project. Some require a lot of back and forth, while others can be done in a day or two. I expect I'll be opening for commissions later this month, with a waiting time of approximately 2 months or less.
Unfortunately, no, I don't work with acrylics. I've always intended to work more on traditional media, but haven't had the time, space, or money the past few years, I'm afraid!

Thank you for responding.
If time was not a factor, and if you felt that a project like this could be completed in a on-off basis, taking time to work on othe commissions, would you still be interested? If not, could you point me in the direction of a piece of yours that illustrates the style you mentioned?
As for the back and forth, I do have a plethora of illustrations that I would send, including a detailed description to alleviate the time of back and forth communications to a minimum.
However, I shall wait for an opening to the waiting list, and add my name to the roster.
Thank You.

Well, most of my commission work illustrates the typical fur treatment I use :) I could certainly spend the extra time doing the fur specifically the way you'd like, although it would be reflected in the price, if that's alright.
I'll be announcing in my journal when I am open again :) It should also say in my journal and on my main page if my status has changed from closed to open, in case you don't want to add me to watch and just want to check in once in a while :)

I have you on my watch list, and I shall keep an eye open for your future posting.
However, I did take a moment to rummage around in your previous works, and took notice of this piece; A Victorian Gentlefox.
It too raised my curiosity and interest. It not only captured my attention, but it does have the glow and mood that I have been looking for.
I shall wait for your reopening of the list, and add my name to it as soon as I can.
I do hope you have a good weekend.
And, my apologies to taking up your time here instead of utilizing notes.
