So about a month ago, we welcomed a new addition :3
I promised Darren that 4 chinchillas was the maximum number I'd want at a time XD Since all 4 live in their own Ferret Nation 142 cages (HUGE, nice cages, all are about 4' or so tall) I feel 4 is a good number, where we can still spoil all of them and tend to all of their needs :)
So anyways, about this cute little guy!
I was browsing Craigslist, and saw that someone was selling a male chin with a cage.. not much more info than that, so I emailed the person out of curiousity. She said he was a 2 year old standard, and she really needed to get him a new home, so she dropped the price from $80 to $60. Impulsively I said I'd take him.
After I e-mailed her back,I thought "Well, unless I fall in love with him and reeeally want to keep him,I can always foster him and adopt him out later." This lady was desperate to get rid of him, and better he go with someone who knows about chins and who would screen potential homes, instead of going to someone who would keep him in a tiny cage and feed him sugary treats and bad food.
When I picked him up that afternoon, they had barely had him a week. Their 10 year old daughter, who he was supposed to be for, said "he talks at night, and the hamsters laugh" ...apparently it made her cry and then she wanted him out of her room and didn't want him anymore...I still say the girl is kinda whacked...Chinchillas do vocalize, and usually at night because that is when they're active...but uh..not talk like human talking, and hamsters don't laugh :P They called him "Bob".
Well, I was smitten from the moment I laid eyes on him. I've always wanted a standard, and he has such a charming personality. I knew he was meant to stay with me. Darren said he was ok with having a 4th chinchilla, especially since he had such a great little personality :3 (Darren and I don't live together yet, but since we will in the future, I still wanted to run it by him ;3 ) We thought about names, asked others for suggestions.. then I remembered how I had recently watched "Enchanted" and the cute little chipmunk in the film is named Pip.I had liked the name for a while..Darren liked it, and well..it fit him!
Thanks to 'daddy' Pip has a big Ferret Nation cage of his own and is learning all about what life should be like, being spoiled rotten! He now has a biiig house, with comfy fleece things to sleep in and on, ledges to hop all over, and all the toys he could want, and of course, the daily chin safe treat and handful of sticks!
Our little herd is complete, we have Raider and Rigel, and Pola and Pip!
Pip can't wait to meet his new dad in person when Darren comes to visit in January (hopefully)!
