I mainly made this because ever since i joined Feral Heart i keep seeing people shout out "ANY FOX PACK RPS?" "LETS START A TIGER PRIDE!" "I'M A LIGRESS LOOKING FOR A MATE" or they think that if they're any feline they can roar at you and it's stuff like this, some of it small, that is a petpeve of mine sooooooooo here's a reference sheet. i'm not calling people dummies but it's just the title i chose. I've always been a lover of animals especially felines and i've noticed quite a few differences while watching animal planet, reading zoo books in elementry school and overall doing curiosity research to develop my feline characters if i dont know much about the feline. So here's just a collection of facts i put together defining few main points i'm trying to get across as far as art i've seen of big cats with slit pupils instead of round, people making the wrong species make the wrong auditory sound or mistaking the wrong species for being able to breed with another species.
also here's some more collective nouns and fun facts
- Hyena is not a canine, it's more closely related to felines
- a group of hyenas is called a clan or a cackle
- a group of hamsters is a horde or a saladbowl
- a baby hamster is a pup, the female is a doe and the male is a buck.
- a group of coyotes is a pack or a train
- a group of foxes is called an Earth, Leash or Skulk
- a group of giraffes is called a tower or herd
- a group of hares is called a band or down
may add a little more later but this is it for now. excuse my lazy coloring this was a lot to do in so little time.

Actually the whole slit-eye/round-eye split is primarily along the lines of size you can see here a few smaller wild felines that have slit-eyes:

Otherwise good info there and glad to see I'm not the only one who wants people to know a bit about the species they play.
