man grey, you're such a little downer. who told you you could be such a downer.
i waffled a lot about how explicit i wanted to be with cin's issues here. i think that's going to be a running theme. hopefully by the time grey's finished remembering, any estute reader will be able to piece together what the hell his problem was.

"A little bit of poison can make the pain go away."
That's what I think when I hear about druggies and drunks with a substance abuse problems. In a way, you have to wonder if it's for their good or everybody else's. Some people aren't prone to violence under the influence, but those that are tend to be far more hostile then would be tolerable.
What really is scary to think about is that their little three group that monitored Grey and captured Cin, had to have had one person higher up in the entire program to monitor and take information into the main program.
You said her kind were the first to create artificial life. Do you think your going to do a little bit of her history on her and how she came into her career then and here? She's starting to become very interesting.
She's a character with a lot of regret it seems.

ruri's story isn't overtly interesting. she's not a racist xenophobic conformist, so she didn't want to live on her home planet anymore. her first job after she finished school was working for Naitec as resident psychologist.
after what happened with grey and cin, she quit (she couldn't justify the morals of what was going on to herself) and her next job is/was first mate on the Angel.

well her race in particular isn't known for THIS project. just *A* project. they're responsible for the creation of the gekin, which is also why creating new biological life forms got outlawed.
in a way, i'm sure that her species' sense of morals towards GMOs helped her work in the field. she had no moralistic qualms with it from the get go. she's not the first (or last) roger to work on naitec's team.

it gives mental images of Ruri as an obsessively overprotective mother, blowing up every little thing into something potentially fatal that he has to be protected from.
'wash your hands! you can die of germs!'
'wear a hat, you might freeze!'
'you stubbed your toe?! it might get gangrene!'
'nooo! potato chips are full of trans fats and they'll give you a heart attack!'
and in the end Cin is in a sterile room in a straightjacket and helmet 'for his own protection'

yeah grey's name is a little bit of a thing
he doesn't refer to himself with any name, mentally, though sometimes there's a little bit of a mocking "alice" reference.
"before" he began to take accountability for his actions (and thus stopped being just a mad animal) people called him Daran. so that name is associated with a time where he's out of control and can't communicate anything effectively.
the period of time he spends with em and cin is a kind of a transitionary time. nobody calls him anything at this point, because he's starting to shed his old identity and form a new one.
and of course 'grey' is what everyone calls him now.
