Edit: Named em and added info. :3
The Rithore are an amphibious species that can live in almost any place with a ready supply of water. They have been documented in the swamps of the south, the mountain streams of the north and a vast majority of deltas, rivers and marshlands all across the mid-line of the planet.
They grow to be approx. 1.5-2ft tall and anywhere from 8-10 feet long. They are brightly colored to warn predators of their toxicity that is found in the flaps that link their front arms to their sides and their back legs to their tail. However, if a predator is careful they can dispatch Rithore and eat around these poisonous flaps.
The potency of the poison in the flaps of a Rithore is determined by the age of the creature. Younger creatures' poison may only leave a bad taste in a predator's mouth or make them dizzy. Older Rithore's poison may knock out a predator or even kill them.
Rithore mate once a year and will lay thousands of eggs in a pre-designated nursery. They will leave the eggs to fend for themselves. In approx. 3 weeks the young will hatch. The time between laying and hatching is a deadly waiting game as many creatures will gather to feast on the abundant and nourishing eggs. Once hatched the young will have a short boost to their poison which will allow them to escape any predators that would have them as a snack. This boost disappears within 24 hours.
A Rithore fends for itself, but may live within close proximity of other Rithore. The average Rithore will live to be about 8 years old.
