I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 camera on sale at Woot.com this week. They usually sell online from $315 to $250, but Woot had remanufactured models on sale for $179 with free shipping. Not a bad deal!
While I like my Canon Powershot G11, it's somewhat bulky and it's video quality is only 640 x 480 mono mp4 and (grainy) digital zoom. While the Lumix can shoot 1920 x 1080 HD video in MTS format with stereo sound and true X16 lens superzoom. Not too shabby for a small camera, and I like small cameras for sneaking up on people at cons!
I wanted to see what this camera could do in a dark environment, so I took it to the REO Speedwagon concert at the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome in Bossier City LA. I haven't seen this band in decades, and it was a fun and LOUD sold out show. Though REO played a few of the cheesy 80's Top 40 power ballads they're best known for, I was surprised that they played many 70's Album Rock classics (back when they kicked ass, imho) dating back to their first album in 1970. And though some of the members are almost pushing 70 they can still play a hell of a lot better than many new bands do live.
The shots with the automatic settings were a little too bright and grainy, but I had better results using the manual settings at 400 ISO. I was 16 rows back from the stage.
Update: I thought I had a great camera until I took it to Furry Fiesta and FWA in 2012 and found out it's a disapointing performer in low light with too dark video or muddy pictures.
So later that year I picked up a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V for $215 on sale at Best Buy. It's a MUCH better performer and I highly recommend it over the Panasonic!

There's quite some history of REO Speedwagon at my hometown's music festival Burlington Steamboat Days. In 1993, the only song they got off here in Burlington was "Riding the Storm Out," then a severe thunderstorm caused the rest of the concert to get cancelled. In 1994, they came back free of charge and the first song they played was "Riding the Storm Out," which was also their encore at the end of the night! I've been to 2 of their concerts myself: Burlington Steamboat Days in 1994 and the Iowa State Fair in 2010 where Pat Benetar opened for them.
