I like that Cara's allowed to be a brat, and that you haven't tried to soften things by making it cute. Not that I have anything against cute pictures of children, far from it. But it's so rare to see anyone who's willing to show a child, in art, acting like the selfish, uncivilized, well, child that they can sometimes be. Kids can be cruel because they haven't really learned the social niceties that adults take for granted, and they're smart enough to know what to say to hurt their parents or their peers. But it's surprising how few people are willing to acknowledge this. Now, again, I don't mean to suggest that all children are like Cara here, or that they deserve to be mistreated for simply being that way. I wouldn't hurt a child if my life depended on it. But the title of this piece is shockingly blunt, and it just made me think, again, how much we as adults tend to glaze over that part of childhood.
I like her little hair ties. I don't think I've seen anyone wear those since I was in grade school. I like that her shirt sleeves are a bit too big for her, too. It reminds me of all the clothes I got as a kid that I was told I'd just have to grow into. Oddly enough, the worse she acts the more I like her, too. I'd still ground her little butt for a week, though.

Cara's personality is really fun to work with and she's not just a normal, fit throwing kid, her parent gives in so she ends up being a fit throwing adult. I don't picture her rich exactly, but she sure gets almost anything she wants. Funny how in real like, we'd probably not want to hang out with people like that, but in the pictures they're super interesting haha
But you're right! Even I rarely do anything but cute and innocent. I think it's because, while people don't mean to exactly, they think of all they're characters as perfect, especially fursonas. I probably wouldn't draw Neko like this, though I have a temper too. But people do forget that even if you raise a child well, you'll still get tantrums, most of the time they don't even know why. I don't have a little sister, so I relied on my Mom for this one. She said kids will cry about anything, being hungry, uncomfortable, cold, hot, there's always a reason and you shouldn't discipline them so hard in those situations. Once you see there is no reason or not a good one (not getting a toy), that's when you really need to put your foot down and try to get them to understand.
For example, when I went to the doc once, a really young girl and mom walked out. She asked "Are we gonna be walking home?". The mother answered yes and she just burst out crying. There's nothing you can do about it of course, but it just shows they're just exhausted and it's normal.
