Hakama I modified for a costume. Wrapped and tacked down some of the strap, put in steel cinch-loops (for the closure, instead of having a tying closer), wrapped another part of the strap accross the hip openings and then tacked the ends up to make loops.
May ad cargo pockets....mmmaybe some chain.
