An experiment with the gesso/charcoal/cardboard media. I wanted to test how well watercolors would work. As you can see, it does give me some color if I put a lot on, but there are some draw backs. The charcoal cannot be added to darken watercolor areas, so you have to make due with black watercolor. Adding watercolor near the gesso turns it a hideous faded color, but luckily if you work quickly you can absorb most of it onto a tissue or paper towel. This is the problem with the bottom middle, I tried to suggest a little yellow onto the gesso and it ruined it. It also didn't turn out as high of contrast as I would have liked. The subject is a german shepherd puppy.

I like your your puppy. Its always kinda fun to try mixing different media
and see what happens. I'm usually using pencils, markers, watercolor, and a bit of charcoal,
never worked with gesso so can't really comment about that.
I have played a bit with water color and charcoal.
The only satisfactory results I got with that was when I went over
the dry water color with charcoal and blended out for shadows or
didn't blend and was using charcoal for strong black lines.
Then sealed everything with a few coats of fixatif spray.
Heh, learned the hard way charcoal needs to be thoroughly sealed, or never touched by anything.
Fixatif did darken everything a bit. Oh and mist over your drawing and let spray settle, don't spray directly
in case you haven't used it before.
Anyway, thats my limited experience.
I think its a good pic, and a goodattempt with mixed media, keep experimenting and thanks for sharing.
