I suppose since my super secret tumblr lurk blog got discovered, I'll just post about it here too.

I use references when I'm doing something professionally, but for personal work I do studies and draw from imagination separately - I don't like reference telling me what to do.
I think there's one sheet there involving some photo studies, the rest is from imagination.

God I love your technical skill. I absolutely adore how you combine that skill with your imagination- it really makes for an incredible portfolio. Technically, I can pull of a successful drawing- If I have a three dimensional reference. The way you pull this off so seamlessly and beautifully will always blow my mind. Ugh sorry for the serious fangirling, but since you're updating again and whatnot, I thought it was appropriate. Anyway, good job! :D you're a big inspiration for me.
Overall, I think your gallery makes a nice portfolio. :D
I've always believed that a portfolio isn't complete without a combination of sketches and drawings- it's nice to see experimentation and ideas. I don't know what you'd apply these to, as you've mentioned. But I imagine, that, if you were to focus on a set of pieces as if they were part of an exhibition, you could become a successful name in the art world.

It's true, every portfolio should have some drawings, studies and fun doodles and the like. It brings a bit of life into it.
The prblem with this one is that there's no field this portfolio could be applied to. Too narrow for concept art and even illustration. Unless gallery exhibitions. Usually a formal portfolio isn't required for participating in gallery art (but I rather avoid that field, I have my grudges with it, besides - not yet good enought and no vision).

Okay, I see what you're saying. It makes a lot more sense now.
My teachers have always had this thing where they're like "no matter what, just throw in everything you've got- drawings, sketches, napkin drawings, idgaf- put it in there".
Anyway, I still think it looks nice, if that counts for anything. :D

glad it got discovered. your work is lovely and your sketches especially. I prefer seeing the bones of how the artist creates. Seeing a bunch of finished, full colored works is wonderful but seeing your technical knack is better. And obviously tumblr is awesome. Definitely following you there.
you know what I think I've figured out is that if you draw what you think is the same thing over and over again, every now and then something really unique and beautiful can come out of it. even if it's just a single line or shading mark. last night I was sketching in pencil for the first time in months and I drew the same face in profile I've drawn a million times before, but something about the mouth on it was just right.
sometimes you have to look for your art moment instead of your art masterpiece.

Neither "majestic" nor "beauties" I'm affraid, but thank you. :)
You don't have to have a tumblr for that. But it's worth a try: easy to setup and use, looks good, everything's customizeable. I just don't like the commenting... or more like - lack of it. You can't comment on anything without reposting it on your blog. That leads to massive clutter.

oh hush :p
but huh, i didn't know that. that does seem to be an issue though, the comment thing. I've noticed the "comments" are like 99% people liking or reblogging it or whatever. And then when there are scant amount of comments present you have to go to that persons tumblr to see the whole thing it seems? tbh I do find it rather muddled in its execution, but I wondered if that was just because I was viewing as a non-member
