At least they were throwing rocks and not grenades. The Cav Squadron we were supporting had that happen to them. Some kids were throwing grenades at one of the Troop's convoys. One kid got lucky and landed one in the gunner's nest. The gunner survived. Arm ended up in a cast, but he survived.

2 of my guys got hit by a grenade in a crowded market. Guy on a bike, had one in his basket, tossed it and ran. Thankfully our guys only received alittle shrapnel to the legs, but it could have been worse. Thankfully I never had any incidents as far as explosives during patrols. Mortars came down frequently in 06, almost got hit on 3 occasions but aside a concussion from the blast I never got hit by anything. Then while getting food one morning in 09 mortars came in while I was heading to my chu so I took cover between two fridges in the dry area till one slammed in at the end of the storage area, so I booked it back to my chu, breakfast secured and ate while everyone was realizing there was an attack. No injuries cept some cereals and such and a damaged wall.

Far as gunners go, on two occasions they used EFP's to target the gunners with fake brick emplacements. Both times they sheared off the turret and the gunners in em. They didn't get so lucky. Nor a friend of mine also gunning. EFP entered in on the passengers side killing him instantly and going on to critically wound the driver, I believe he died later on. Secondary penetrator cut my friend in half pretty much. He lost his legs and part of his sac. He survived but I never found out what happened after they got him evacuated.

Thankfully EFPs are near non-existent in Afghanistan.

Here I thought they would be using em more since those Iranian fucks like to share ideas all the time with anyone against the west. But that's good though.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. My condolences. I was fortunate enough to only experience some IDF. I'm also fortunate that I haven't lost any friends. I count those blessings.

Thank God I didn't have to do dismounted patrols. Or any patrols for that matter. In fact, I'm not upset at all that I was a POTG ass Fobbit.

Yeah, they are the same in both countries. Luckily I did not have to deal with the Afghans much.

A favorite moment of Iraq for me was my gunner throwing a giant ass bag of bubble gum and it hitting a kid smack dab in the chest, him flying to the ground then getting up and having that "Oooo piece of candy" look on his face.

I remember when they told us to throw out radios to the people while we were rolling down the street. It took a few throws and some hard hits for me to realize that I actually had to throw them towards the back of the HMMWV so it wouldn't knock out people. xÐ
