Lyndi has a sort of one-sided infatuation with Shard going on. One that he knows of and tolerates, but does not reciprocate. Why so is his own business. But her usefulness as a researcher is too valuable to jeopardize by rebuffing her outright. So he accepts her affection, but doesn't much act on it unless he absolutely has to.
