I was just sketching a rat one day when it reminded me SO much of my rats Azure and Capy, they where a couple of rescues that died late last year of natural causes. I loved them so much so I thought " Why not make a rat out of them both?" And with that I used Cappys Prints on the tummy and Asures prints on the back, officialy making him a Fawn Downunder rat, I really liked how it looked but the Standured ears of my male rats where to choppy to put on this guy, so also in memory of my rat Venus, I put her ears on this =3..
A Great Memorial to three rats that chose to exsist on FNA Rainbow Rescue's terf <3...
CCRT Welcome.

That's really cute! I like the exaggerated features. Only problem with that is that the rear foot seems a little flat, and her nose seems like it's looking straight while her head is turned to her right. An under drawing of the basic shapes might help you keep things straight.
What you're doing with the fur works really well, and looks like fur should. One trouble spot is on the back leg, where it gets a little messy. It's hard to figure out where the fur goes in places like that though. I'd recommend getting a picture or looking at another rat.
I love the lighting on the skin. There's actual bone and muscle in that foot! Sure, you don't have a source, but I don't really feel like I miss it here. You are very good at lighting that skin.

Thank you ^^. I was working on learning more detailing skills so the lightsorce was ment to hit the image from the northeast to the southwest, but like all training it doesint always go as planed. The backfoot was created flat at first cause I was planning to have plants around them and detail wasint needed, but as the progression in the toes became so beautifuly highlighted I didint have the heart to cover them up, I might be changing the legs when I finish my half of our art trade, I really like that picture btw, the dissapearing Ritz!! XD.
And the nose did look strange to me but I didint know where, thank you so much for pointing that out, when I sketched it on paper and put it to my computer skills it didint come out as nicly X-x. And as for the furin the back leg, I was confused by some pictures I had of Azure, the fur looked like it was bowing to the right but suddenly it took a sharp turn to the left, and in some places it was all spiky causing a depth problem. so I just tried to copy Cappy's fur pattern when I was half way through, which tended to mess up what I already put in ^^;. I'm glad you feel the source wasint needed in this image cause it's actualy one of my greatest weaknesses. Now if only I could get around to googling some exstencive tutorials on bone structure I could better create my rat drawings from the inside out.. But all the pictures are bone fragments so far X_x.. And very grose rat in blender images..
Thank you so much for those Helpful crits and for your Comments, I'm exsited to put them into action and see how Griffith will look. Now that you mension another rat, I never did look at venuses fur and my sister always talked about her having wonderful crosshairs o.o.

It never looks weird until you scan it on your computer. XD That's usually where I catch my mistakes too.
I'd encourage you to practice your lighting whenever you can. You learn the most by breaking out of your comfort zone. Anyway, you'll never get it if you don't try. :) I have to force myself to work on lighting, actually. It's one of my weaknesses too.
And yea, I love that picture. That's what you get when you have a crappy camera and a rat that won't sit still.
If I didn't say so earlier, I think it's great that you use The Gimp. Everyone thinks they need Photoshop, yet there's a great free program that can do just about everything they'd need in most cases. And you're very good at using it.

Yeah I noticed that when scanning him O-o.. The nose and tail looked fine but once on the computer there was alot to change XD.
Every drawing has to have shading, specialy when it comes to the detail some of my rats look best in, so I can assure you the practice on lighting will continue till I can do it right lol ^^. It's hard to force the work of good practice, but once a lesson is learned from doing so the whole technique becomes better the next time and more enjoyable. So sometimes it takes those herdles of going through the unpleasent to make it a great experiance in the end =3, with some of your drawings I would have never known it was one of your weaknesses.
Thank you so much for letting me know yaou liked it, little babies get camra shy I guess ^^;.
And yeah, some of my friends are crazy about getting the newest programs, including that new Graphire F-X. But every drawing they do looks like something that could be done on GIMP with a little tweaking and some smoothing materials. GIMP takes just as much practice to learn as those expensive programs and can do just as great if someone gets the hang of it. And every time people get those new programs for a special tool or more brushes, they have to learn it all over again. So GIMPS a great program to continualy use through the years and you can always download free plugins for new things, and create your own brushes =3. That way you only have to learn the new tool without learning a whole new program.
Thank you, I've been using GIMP for 6-7 months now? I'm still learning things like how to smooth and sharpen a image, but with every new tool the pictures get better =3.
