This is the rough mock-up for the tattoo I plan on getting soon. I've planned this one for years now and I'm stoked to finally be going through with the process! I realize the concept isn't very original but I still love the symbolism in it.
The koi itself is a reminder to myself of how far I've come and to keep persevering no matter what obstacles life might throw my way. The chain is for all the things I've already broken through and the strength I have in myself and those around me. And the lotus is a symbol for "love, compassion, passion, activity and all the qualities of the heart."
I'll be getting it on my foot more likely than not (once again, not terribly original XD) but depending on how much detail they have to remove due to the small space some elements may be left out. The design will probably change from here as the artist sees fit (and because I cannot get the tail to look right for the life of me).
And yeah I actually watermarked this one. XD I realize it does little to deter thieves but I might as well try. I feel almost hypocritical watermarking it because I could swear I referenced a picture on DA for this but that was years ago so I'm not sure.
Then again most koi tattoos look alike anyhow. XD

I love pieces with so much relevance and meaning to the wearer...just my thoughts here~but have you ever considered another body region to adorn? I think it would look so powerful down your entire side-the rib cage extending down to your hip wrapping around to your belly. Now thats no small undertaking, but the result will be absolutely stunning. Another aspect I always consider before investing in a tattoo is the "pain" aspect~the more you can endure, the richer the reward afterwords. Talk about your innerl strength being tested...well lets just say the almost 9 hours on my back is still not complete. I'm a big fan of exploring personal limits-you don't have to torture yourself on my account, but yeah...go big on this one girl-you will never regret it.
I would lovelovelove it on my ribcage! When I first imagined it I wanted it on my food for semi-symbolic semi-show-off-able reasons but with all of the detail I could put into it I think it would look amazing down my side. They would be able to do so much with the shading and the scales and highlighting. My main concern is money. It's already going to be rather expensive with the detail and colors I already want, but ten times that? And yeah I'm definitely worried for the pain if I did it on my ribs. I have a fear that if I did put it there, it would never get finished. And losing the color out of this piece would leave out some of the meaning. I still have a bit of thinking to do on it. :] I'll talk to the artist, too, when I have my consultation.
As always, I love your input, Oki! <3
