Once there was a beautiful green and gold dragon who built her nest in the sky. After a time, she refused to alight on the ground to converse with her peers, for she had grown vain and distant. Often her family would plea for her to join her sisters in their games, but they were dull and ugly compared to her beautiful plumage, and so she ignored them. And she turned her back on any who were beneath her.
Many years passed, and the sky grew quiet harsh and cold. Watching the earth below, the dragon noticed the others comfortable and close, sharing laughter and stories. While they called and welcomed her once more, still the vain dragon refused to call out or return to them.
Years later again, she spied a lone dragon shimmering in a lake far below. This dragon was as beautiful as herself, and on seeing one worthy of her attention she leapt towards the lake below. As soon as she left her nest the rush of the earth’s warmth caused her to catch fire, for she had been in the sky far too long. Her tail and wings set light to the nest and her beautiful green scales floated down to rest upon the lakes surface, causing the reflection to depart.
Evermore her nest burns brilliant and bright, warming the sky. And beautiful green scales can still be found resting on the lake, for those who know where to look.
