Day 2 Part 1
It was five in the morning when Benjamin woke up. He didn’t sleep well that night, because of all of those thoughts swirling like a vortex in his mind. So many questions, so few answers. He had to clear his mind. Benjamin remembered that William had told him that all servants started work at precisely seven. He had two hours to kill, and he decided to take a jog outside.
Benjamin changed into another T-shirt and quietly left his room, hoping he wouldn’t disturb anyone. Once he got outside in the courtyard, he headed toward the main entrance. He noticed that there were cameras in pretty much every corner.
Benjamin took the jog mainly to find any blind spots so that he could form an escape plan. After two laps around the inner wall of the mansion, he found no blind spots. He was about to give up when he heard a strange noise. Benjamin looked behind him to see a masked man with a gun.
The strange man fired his weapon. Benjamin tried to dodge the bullet coming right at him, but he wasn’t quick enough and the bullet hit Benjamin’s left shoulder. The bullet went through his body and numbed his whole left arm. Benjamin couldn’t move it at all.
Luckily, Benjamin still had his right arm to aid him. All of a sudden, his eyes turned red as a burning fire was heating up his body, as if he were possessed by a sudden force. Benjamin gained immense strength and speed.
When the stranger fired another bullet, Benjamin was able to dodge it with ease. He then took a giant leap and dashed towards the mysterious enemy. Now there were in close combat.
The enemy attempted to attack Benjamin by punching him in the chest, but Benjamin was able to dodge it. Benjamin ducked and rushed toward the man. Benjamin then punched him in the face. The man stumbled backwards, leaving himself open wide for attacks.
Benjamin then felt an intense power controlling him and giving him the animal instinct to kill. Benjamin dashed toward the man and was about to unleash a finishing blow by using his right hand to slash right through the enemy’s face until he regained control of his body.
He stopped just seconds before he killed him. His red eyes then transformed back to their deep sea blue color.
He couldn’t live with the thought of him killing a man, even one that had attacked him. Then the enemy jabbed Benjamin in the gut. Benjamin fell on his knees, then kicked Benjamin in the face to knock him a few feet away from him.
Then a strange sound came from his collar as it started to electrocute Benjamin once again. This time, Benjamin let out a huge roar of pain as he tried to yank the collar of his neck. Benjamin felt the pain and his life draining away from him. Feeling near death, he was left gasping for air.
The mysterious stranger told Benjamin, “You were supposed to defeat me. Yet you failed and by now, you would be dead. I then could easily have killed the family. Since you failed you were given a little reminder. This shouldn’t happen again. Am I making myself clear?”
He nodded as he tried to regain his balance and to get up. The mysterious stranger then climbed over the fence, avoiding Benjamin’s attempt to attack him from behind.
Benjamin got up and stumbled his way towards his room. By that time, it was already six o’clock. He ran to the bathroom to try to tend to his wound, but was surprise to see that his wound had already healed. He was also able to move his hand again.
He then got the book William let him borrow. He found that the werewolf page was already marked. He turned there and skimmed it. The book stated:
A werewolf is transformed at every full moon. There are some ways for a human to become a werewolf. The most common ways are either having the bloodline of a werewolf or getting bitten by a werewolf. Werewolves have increased senses and strength, as well as an agility that enables them to run five miles within a few minutes. Werewolves also have the ability to regenerate body parts. Minor damage to a body will heal within minutes while major wounds, such as lost limb healing and regeneration, will vary a day or two. There are two elements that werewolves cannot destroy: silver and mercury. (Note, mercury has a similar compound and similar properties to silver). Throughout time, silver bullets were used to kill werewolves; however, that will not fully kill a werewolf. Werewolves will regenerate lost organs as well. The only way to fully kill a werewolf is to remove either the heart or brain and destroy it completely to ensure a werewolf’s death.
That’s all it said about werewolves. Benjamin now at least knew more about himself, but it didn’t explain what had happened out there. He had lost control of his body when he was attacking.
He tried to forget about that, knowing that he was to go to work within one hour. He first took a shower, which wet down his fur, allowing his fur to be combed. He attempted to get his suit on: the tuxedo jacket, the bowtie, and cufflinks. He left at 6:30 and headed to the servant dining room for breakfast.
As he walked out, he noticed how busy the whole courtyard was as many servants prepared for the new day. Benjamin continued his way towards the dining room.
Once Benjamin got inside the dining room, he wasn’t surprised to see that it was another busy scene as practically every servant tried to set their breakfast. William waved at Benjamin, trying to get his attention, and so he walked over toward William and sat next to him.
“Good morning William” said Benjamin.
William answered, “Good morning to you Benjamin. I hope you had a good night’s sleep last night. I have taken the liberty of preparing your breakfast. You have to start getting your own food from now on. That means coming in earlier. Is that understood?”
“Yes sir,” said Benjamin. Benjamin wanted to tell William what had happen that morning, but he didn’t. He remained wary of William because he also had another remote that could control his collar.
Benjamin looked at his breakfast: two eggs, a piece of toast, and hash brown potatoes. There was also a cup of orange juice. Benjamin felt a loss of appetite but knew he had to keep up his strength.
While he was eating, William said, “Benjamin, I have already met with Master Knightwell. His instructions state that today, you are to trim the hedges in the around the mansion and unload a crate at the entrance at 12:30. Also, you have to care for Samantha between 2:30 till 5:00. It seems that she enjoyed your company yesterday and wants to play with you again. Do whatever she wants; do you hear me?”
Benjamin replied, “Got it William”
Benjamin ate the food, one bite at a time, until there wasn’t a single crumb left. After his breakfast, Benjamin headed toward the main entrance where a gardener was waiting for him. The gardener told Benjamin, “You need to make sure that the hedges are even. Feel free to ask questions.” He then handed Benjamin a pair of hedge clippers and started working.
He started working at the hedges in the entrance. They were small but were the most important ones. They were the first ones anyone saw when they arrived at the mansion. The hedges were square shaped and easy to clip.
After an hour of fixing all the hedges in the front entrance, they moved on to the park on west side of the mansion. Benjamin hadn’t seen the park fully until that moment.
He was in a state of shock when he saw how many hedges were in the park. There was an abundance of trees and hedges, and it would take hours to trim them all.
The park was covered with many hedges and trees. There were marble sidewalks that spread out throughout the whole park. There were also many flower gardens and a huge maze in the center of the park.
As Benjamin started cutting some of the hedges, he heard a faint ticking sound, similar to that of a clock. Benjamin wondered why a clock would be in the park.
Benjamin pondered on the fact that a ticking sound would be at a park. He examined all of the possibilities and drew to the conclusion that a bomb must be the cause of the ticking sound.
Benjamin dropped his tool and followed the sound of the bomb. The bomb was hidden within a hedge, but the abundance of hedges made it nearly impossible for anyone to locate it.
However, Benjamin was able to locate the bomb exactly because of his sensitive hearing. He rushed toward the hedge where the source of the ticking sound seemed to originate.
He checked in the hedge and found a clock with a timer. He picked up the timer and it stopped.
The gardener then walked toward Benjamin and said, “Good work Benjamin. You found the timer within twenty-three seconds. With that, you pass the bomb test. Your tests are done for the today. Now, go to the entrance and do your second job. I got it from here”
Benjamin obeyed the gardener and headed toward the entrance to start his second job. There, he met another servant who unloaded crate in the mansion.
That man saw Benjamin and said, “Hey Benjamin, I’ve heard about you. Your job is to help me unload these crates of groceries and take them into the kitchen. Think you can do that?”
“Sure, how hard can that be?” Benjamin replied.
Benjamin started lifting crates so heavy that it would have taken two servants to pick each up. He lifted each with ease as he transported it into the kitchen. Each crate had a label notify what it contained.
Benjamin was doing a fine job; in fact, he reduced the work time by half. He enjoyed this job the most since he was able to smell the sweet scents of the food. He was able to smell a multitude of aromas; freshly plucked strawberries and oranges were among Benjamin’s favorite.
However, when he picked up the crate that contained meat, he noticed that it smelled funny. The scent of raw meat wasn’t familiar to Benjamin¸ but this meat smelled odd, almost moldy.
When he placed the meat crate in the kitchen, he informed the man about the funny smell he noticed. The man asked him several questions. “Really Benjamin, the meat crate smelled funny? Did it smell really weird to you? Should we order another meat crate?”
Benjamin replied, “Well, I don’t think it was that bad. I never smelled raw meat, so it could be that it just smells normal.”
The man told Benjamin “Is that so? Well then, you failed” He took a remote out of his pocket and pushed a button on it.
The collar around Benjamin’s neck shocked him once again. The voltage was much stronger than that morning, but the effects were the same, leaving Benjamin to collapse onto the ground, using all of his strength to prevent the electricity from killing him.
When it stopped, the man said, “That meat crate contained poison. Next time, if anything ever smells funny to you, make sure you fully inspect it before reporting it. Is that understood?”
Benjamin was still on the ground as told the man, “Yes sir, I got that”.
The man said, “Good, now finish moving those crates into the kitchen and then go have lunch”
Benjamin got up and struggled for a few minutes as he got up on his feet. He took a few minutes to relieve himself from that paralyzed feeling he had. When he was ready, he moved the crates as fast as he was able to.
He wanted to get that job over with and have some lunch. When he finished, he went to the dining room and there was a row of food, free for the grabs. There were several servants starting to prepare their lunches.
Benjamin got himself a tray and moved down the row of food. He viewed the food as he picked up his choices. He had chosen three cheeseburgers, two small trays of french fries, two oranges, and two bottles of icy cold water.
He had time to kill, and so he didn’t gulp down the food as usual but instead took his time. It took him minutes to finish all of his lunch, and by that time, it was only 2:15. He had only 15 minutes before he had to babysit Samantha.
Benjamin walked out of the dining room and headed toward Samantha’s room where, and when he arrived, he found Jennifer playing with Samantha.
Jennifer greeted him, “Good afternoon Benjamin”
Benjamin stood and said, “Good afternoon Jennifer and Samantha”.
“Excuse me Benjamin, but please tell me why you are here” said Jennifer.
“Well, your father, Master Aaron, has assigned me the job to watch Samantha for the afternoon.”
“Yea”, shouted Sam. “Daddy kept his promise. I’ll get to play with Mr. Wolfy.”
Jenifer said, “Really? Well, great. How about this? I’ll go down to the kitchen to get some snacks for us while you watch Sam. Can you do that?”
“Sure, how hard could that be?”
Jennifer replied, “Oh, you’ll be surprised”
At that, Jennifer left Samantha’s room and headed toward the kitchen. When Sam and Benjamin were alone, he noticed an evil look on Sam face.
“Well Benjamin, time for us to play…” Samantha said in a frightening voice.
Benjamin had a very bad feeling about this as if he were in the worst situation of his life.
