You KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
THIS has happened to me SO many times, with "new" species proposed to me. New characters etc. (why me? I dont know maybe because im "popular")
now most of the time i dont mind it, purple tigers? awesome. rainbow-horned unicorns? whatever floats your boat. But 9 times out of ten... i get something like THIS.
And unfortunately i can't keep my mouth shut about how implausible a certain character/species design is because for me, characters need to be able to exist in some kind of plausible reality. in my opinion having natural armor made of inorganic material is the most popular, and the most irritating.
The super defensive rants i get afterward make me want to strangle/slap the people who even asked me.
I fully expect to see both sides of the coin in the comments, go ahead. You can totally torch me for my opinion, but seriously, if you ask me for critique on a character/species. Im going to be honest.

I have to say I agree with ya there Foxena. I am the sort who likes a smidge of plausibility myself. While I love making furry.characters, I try to keep it reasonable and make it still fun to play. I also dont know if you look over these for RPGs or not, but balance is good.
This is why I miss playing games like this...too many times you get the groups that all super power themselves and its no longer fun. I just wanna say I am on your side of the coin here.

This is why I stopped asking for critiques, because invariably I get back some of the following responses:
1 - "I really liked it!" "Liked what about it?" ". .. I just liked it!". I appreciate the supportive sentiment but it doesn't help me improve or recognize where I have problems.
2 - "It sucks." "Why? What's wrong?" "Because you're not a real writer". No, the last comment is not usually what is said outright, but there are any combination of the following:
- "Writer X did this concept before and (they are cooler/I like them more/it worked better) therefore you suck for copying them." Bonus points if I never actually read the source material.
- "I don't like (the theme/one character/fantasy/science-fiction/magic/science/the color blue) therefore your story isn't any good."
- "I didn't read the whole thing but..." Also earns those douche points for redemption at Starbucks for overpriced burnt coffee.
- "You asked me my opinion and I gave it." Double points bonus, for being asked a question and answering it with a non-answer!
. . . now why I stopped really writing? That's a whole different can of worms labeled "plagiarism and outright theft".

Now i understood. They think up some immortal or overpowered character or something else humanly impossible and asks *How is it? Hmm? Awesome?* They just think that a artist will say wow! Really really awesome! Im so amazed! And if you turn them down they become a real ass. If i were you and someone would bitch on me like that i would say either shut up or get the fuck lost!
The only thing I can agree about with regards to the furious furry is that yes, creating a new species is rather difficult. . . creating a really overpowered and/or silly one isn't, but making one that is interesting to play can be. There are books about it in fact, to try and help new science fiction writers create functional alien species and societies.
That said, I don't really ask for opinions on anything I create until I feel it is either near completion, or am stuck on a detail and need a second set of eyes. Too many times I've gotten critical remarks that weren't even helpful.. so I tend not to ask for opinions very much, unless I am sure that a person is familiar with, and skilled at, critical analysis. I also don't like it when people lie to make me feel better.. But this sort of thing almost never happens anyway, so it is a non-issue.

i must agree making a new species is incredibly hard, which is why i have YET to release the Chimenticore and its related sub species to the masses, its just not ready, would it be on part with Chakats and Sergals? prolly not. but hey development takes time. I dont mind anything so long as its approached from a plausible viewpoint and with a reasonable mind. most people arent reasonable about it. You are though, ^_^.
This is something more people should pay attention too. I've designed a character or two in my time and while the temptation is to go completely insane and uber-powerful though it doesn't lead to a very good story or back story for the character or characters. Probably the most wild I create these days is like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5120476/ - half dragon/wolf with no powers, just nice and different to look at, I have a story going for her too, and the only real difference is when you explain in depth physiology and it doesn't happen often because it often isn't relevant.
I have to deal with this kind of thing a lot with work as well, unfortunately at work I have to be polite and professional so I often store my true thoughts aside for an out of work pub crawl. :P

"Knockers in inventory" your boob jokes are hilarious :3
This was funny until the ranting and ear covering part. I mean, if someone is going to ask another artist for their opinion, you can't expect to hear exactly what you think you want to hear from them. Also the nerve this person or anyone as a matter of fact would have to bitch after you were completely honest with them is not only rude on their part but, also frustrating because you had to be the one to listen to them ranting. I swear I've been asked a few times whether these peoples characters were too powerful and all I get after being completely honest with them are yells and complaints, so I know how you feel about the topic.

im not covering my ears, im tugging at my hair in frustration. And yes thats the punchline, i never really intended these to be funny that was the byproduct of some peoples interpretation. My intention was to bring to light what I get to deal with being "popular" to the furry community. It bugs me, but drawing it out makes me feel beter and gives me a laugh personally at how inane people can be. Not iNTENDED to be funny no, but the way people act has to be told truthfully and it wouldnt be fair if i left that part out.
Oh, you weren't? It certainly looks like your were covering your ears from my point of view... didn't notice her hair. The only real thing I was laughing at were the boob jokes not what was happening as the comic short was progressing. Also the fact that the funny byproduct is coming from your watchers about your being popular with the anthro community probably is happening because some of these people have had to deal with these issues while some have experienced others in this situation. While I get the intended purpose you can't help but at least giggle to yourself after what has happened, it's a life experience we'll all get it at some point in our lives. :D
My species is amazing and new! Half Lion, Half Kangaroo! I mean, I'm working on superpowers, but it's so hard to come up with, so I'll think on it a while and hang an 'in progress' sign around my neck! Love me! Or fear my ranting, Bitches!
Okay, so this is totally awesome and as a non-artist, I've had to sit at a neighbouring Artist's table at a con, listening tosomeone describe their character as to how it should be drawn. They describe things that may or may not be helpful to an artist like, "They like to read romance novels" but...the pose is of them 'in their favorite car, a Nissan 300Z, not the new 350, since those got uglier" and they just went on and on and on. I rolled my eyes at the artist I was in front of as I bought prints and they said, "I know right?" I wasn't even trying to get the artist's attention to point it out, that fur was just THAT obviously, hurfadurf about their character.
I just spoke up, "I have blue eyes, can you draw that into my foot fetish macro vore picture please?" and handed them my sketchbook (not-seriously) and they giggled and pushed it back. But yeah....Love the 'Crazy People' lineup you have thus far!

I get this alot from women asking about boyfriends
"What do you think of Chris?"
"He's an arse hole."
"You're just jelous that he's a better man-" ect
*3 months later
"Chris beat me up again. What should I do?"
"Leave him. You deserve better."
"What! How dare you bad mouth him! I love him! You're just jelous-" ect
and so it continues. Why even ask?
On a character note, I'm a marry sue character apparently. Being strong and smart are apparently 2 things only badly designed characters have. Also, giving fictional (or even real) characters with some minor details changed to hide their identity can get undue harsh reactions. I do find alot of characters that are samey and over powered are just author fantasy forfilment, but I do believe some 'bad' character traits can work within a certain setting. Super heroes are a great example of this.
Unless it's a design issue, I wouldn't ask an artist for their opinion. I would ask what colour scheme or design looks good on a character (I'm a big fan of giving a general outline and letting the artist fill in the gaps) but I wouldn't ask if they felt this gadget was over powered, or if this biology is vaible.

been going over your old "Crazy People" pics, and I have to say I think they are your best work, funny and oh so true at the same time.
This one reminds me of issue that I have with a startrek rpg I help run, every player designed ship has the maneuverability of a fighter, the speed of a racer, the shield of a battleship, and the firepower of a fleet, even the cargo ships!!!

Validation most likely. For while they look at it they can escape to where their personal avatar isn't insecure. In cases like this it's a form of escapism which becomes a drug after awhile. I've actually had to cut ties with a few commissioners over their more obsessive tendencies. Either their desire for art and other toys surpassed thier fiscal abilities. Or they stepped well past the line between Artist and commissioner as a business transaction. (I actually waited over a month for severely overdue funds that nearly went into the 4 digits all the while the commissioner was buying art from others along with concert tickets and toys. I patiently waited excuse after excuse untill finally when he looked as if he was going to skip my final deadline i gave him I threatened to put him on AB if he didn't pay me immediately. I did finally get my money then but I refused to work for them therafter despite them attempting to guilt me into it. Another threw a fit when I refused to give him my number, and threw at me "But i've commissioned so much from you" etc.)
That sounds like a very good hypothesis. Or would you consider it a tested theory? Nevermind, that's not important.
Isn't human psychology FASCINATING? Even when it's being incredibly annoying, it's still kinda cool how people can have such strong reactions over such petty things.
Obviously I've never been in your position, so I can't really empathize, but I can and do sympathize with your experiences at the hands of sucky behavior. You've probably heard that a thousand times, though. Not much I can do about that; sorry.
Have you ever seen one of THOSE people change their ways? "See the light", etc.? Not just do things differently, but do things differently because they recognized that what they were doing was wrong, along with extending an apology to you and/or whoever it was they'd done wrong by?
