EDIT February 2013 - Since I first made this, Nym has undergone a lot of development! Just a few visual tweaks, and I've named her species; the Alecani. I've done some writing and further development of her world, story, and supporting characters. I collect most of this information in my tumblr under a specific tag. Anything having to do with Nym and her world will be here - http://eskiworks.tumblr.com/tagged/nym
I have finally updated Nym's character sheet! Yay! So a little explanation:
I wanted to get away from the typical anthro anatomy for her, because I picture her more of a fantasy creature from a book or comic, rather than an furry character. I tried to add some more believability to her flight capabilities, like the size of her wings, an added tail for steering in flight, and her size makes her a more nimble flyer.
I have a pseudo-story for her in my head, but it's pretty loosely defined and self indulgent, so this all is just for fun. I don't really have a name for her species, but I can say she comes from a colony of her kind that live in a red desert canyon type area (think Canyon lands in Arizona/Utah, Moab and Antelope Canyon), where her people live in neat homes carved out of the canyon sides. But she also spends a lot of time in an ancient old-growth forest in her story, learning plant magic and hanging out with a colony of forest dwelling versions of her species.
Overall, my aim isn't to make something that represents me as a person. She's a completely artistically indulgent character, for pure fun to draw and write about! But I guess you can say she represents my desire to dream, travel, be free, and all the wonderful fantasy worlds I had as a kid.
Also, here are some alternative markings she has! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6965102/
And her 2 alternate color schemes - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6966156
Got any questions about her, lemme know!

Those WING feathers omg<3
...It's weird when someone else designs a fursona for you without your input. XD; That's what happened to me at first. I suppose it's only inevitable that I changed him, huh?
FFF, sorry for the babble.
Only thing is the tail looks ... out of place? ig you want a mammalian tail, why not have a down covered apendage that extends out a meter and has yhe bird tail tlstarting half way through. And does the top bit on her head open like a cockatoo?
Hmm, honestly I think the idea of having a down covered tail rather than fur is awkward, because the rest of her is fur other than her wings. Plus having the tail feather attached midway seems like it would provide less stability when she's steering mid flight. It's also less bird-like than I prefer. This mimics the shape and design of a bird tail while keeping her mammalian tail intact. Plus she can fold her tail feathers without having them drag along the ground.
And the feather crest is movable, yes. =)
Oh mah gur she's adorable. :O
I really like how you decided to draw the tail/feathers for streering, also the markings on the feathers look great.
Also the description sounds very interesting, that area is really beautiful <3
However, I have wanted a winged canine type species for a while.. if I come up with a name for my species, maybe you could use the name, but like.. as a different sub-species of? Like... the main species, and then yours and mine are two seperate sub-species?
^_^ I dunno... it's an idea ^_^
Hopefully I don't create a backstory that's the same as any others out there.. even if I've never seen them before :P
Your new design is very cute, I'm glad you finally found the time to finish this up. You deserve more 'you' art.
I know what you mean, that is part of why I made those red canyons her home. Because when I visit it's all I imagine, just soaring over those beautiful canyons.
i'll probably go with the brown one though, for obvious reasons ;p
i dont have the imagination, talent, fancy equipment or anything of course ^-^'
Honestly the eye color is the same exact color and everything (as i had it in my HEAD) but since all i have is the back of a note-pad and some cheap-o coloring pencils and a pen i got from my state-farm insurance company LOL....ugh! *shuts up* Anyways, yours is beautiful!!!
Od love to see you do some wolf nym adoptables or character auction! :)
Also sweet that you tried.to.give her a realistic appearance, from a point of stance etc, as well as her flight capability being all natural and not magic based. ^^
Simply well done.
