A bit of a political cartoon here, but I wonder if any of the guys who are going to be voting on the Protect IP bill have ever seen Hackers. :P
For those of you who don't know, the Protect IP bill is supposed to help prevent computer piracy by blacklisting websites from search engines like google, as well as monitoring bandwith usage and watching for high bandwith that often appears as a result of using programs like Bittorrent and such.
What the bill will REALLY do is give corporations the right to demand that google block sites they aren't fond of, as well as force advertising companies to break contract with said websites which will force them to shut down.
Should this bill pass here's a few sites that will probably go the way of the dodo:
Furaffinity
Deviantart
Youtube
F-list
Inkbunny
That Guy With The Glasses
Angry Video Game Nerd
EVERY -chan board
SoFurry
VCL
and so on. I wouldn't be surprised to see any webcomics having to do with video games or such going bye-bye as well, like Ctrl+Alt+Del and Penny Arcade.
For those of you who don't see the above as a big issue lets look at the other half of that, specifically the high bandwith dealie. Y'know what else causes high bandwith? Online gaming. If you play World of Warcraft, Everquest, Star Wars, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty, or anything like that over the internet you could be flagged and watched by the authorities. Hell even using Netflix can get them looking at you!
As for the piracy thing? It won't do squat. Almost all the piracy websites operate outside the US so in truth they won't be able to touch them. Anyone who knows how to use an IP address to get on a website will still be able to access them too. Sadly, most of the people voting on this and many of the backers of the bill don't know how computers and the internet work and have no idea this is going to happen (or know and simply don't care).
Fortunately there's a few movements out against this sort of thing, here's some links to websites that give more information about the bill. I encourage everyone who sees this to get more information about this and do what you can to prevent it being passed. If it goes through many of the websites we use and post on may well be gone! Forward this to your friends, tell them to do likewise.

As for the comic... well, as I said the -chan boards will most likely die if this passes... what do you think will happen to Congress and the backers of this thing if they manage to piss off that many hackers at once? >:3

Love this - and really, think about the world of pain its going to bring down on the MPAA and the backlash on congress if this passes... Just like batting a beesnest, there will be a swarm of angry bees all over both.
Quite fitting. Needs to be in the newspapers in the OP ED section 8-)
