Choosing Sides (Dragon Age Fanfic)
A break from artwork and Three related writings, I present you with something cheezy.
I wrote this as a sort of standalone story for a contest, but I'm kind of proud of the dialog. Of course you have to be familiar with Dragon age to get the context, but I absolutely loved writing the banter in this thing.
If you play the dwarf noble background in DA, you are the middle child of the king and are framed for (or tricked into, depending on your disposition) the murder of your eldest brother Trian and exiled into a series of tunnels filled with monsters called Darkspawn. You get rescued by a group of people who fight the monsters called Gray Wardens and inducted into their ranks.
During the game you find yourself back home and in the position to put a new king on the throne. You can put your father's right hand man there, who is mired in tradition and will cause your people to continue to dwindle and stagnate, or you can elect your brother who framed you for murder but who is progressive and could help your people thrive.
I always liked the Dragon Age dwarves because they were very political. The fantasy stereotype has them as little underground vikings, but in DA they're more like a pack of scheming vipers, and the person who schemes the best is the winner.
