When the original arc was written, Brian's failed attempts on page 171 were each meant to be a separate page, with this gag included. When they were condensed together, this script couldn't be shortened to two panels or less, so it was ultimately dropped.
It's a little sad, but it probably would have been cut anyway-the arc is long enough without having to explain not only how his antler grew back so quickly.
