I don't like ponies.
It has been so since I was in kindergarten. For boys, there were shows like Transformers, Biker Mice From Mars, Power Rangers, etc., etc. For girls - My Little Pony and some others for which I never cared, 'cause - duh - it was girl stuff. But My Little Pony was goddamned obnoxious back in a day.
Thus, stuff like Barbie, Polly Pocket and My Little Pony were the most vibrant manifestations of girly stuff. An epitome of your normal 5-10 years old.
In 2010 something happened. Internet was at large with My Little Pony. It's main audience - guys between 14 to 35 years of age. How times have changed, eh?
Pony-releated art flooded FA and other furry related sites, it was a big thing on 4chan(untill it was banned) and thus, it was all around me. Bronies emerged, $hitstorms were raging.
I didn't liked any of that. I didn't liked ponies.
But after a year I asked myself "why?" and decided to see what all the fuss was about.
"I guess one random episode won't change anything...", I thought.
... as I'm typing this I'm also watching episode 10 of the first series and I love every minute of it.
I can no longer call myself a man. :(

I can explain it. While you watch an episode, Pinkie pops out of the back of your TV/computer/whatever, sneeks behind you, and clubs you over the head. Then she injects cupcake frosting directly into your bloodstream, leaving you feeling awesome, and having nothing to link the awesome to but the episode you just watched.
She only needs to do it once. Everything after that is self inflicted.

Not me, I am still anti MLP >_>;
I wont even get the merch for my almost 19 month old daughter.....
I dont mind the art that is spawned from it but to this day I still say it is annoying as all hell........
Sorry I am one of those that took thundercats, TMNT, and Transformers over MLP, and Strawberry shortcomings I mean shortcake......

Welcome to enjoying a very good show :) I was like you as well! :O but it took more than one episode to beat off my programmed ideas and nature x.x like you, I associated the name to those early things from childhood, and the words of "DUMB!" and "OVERLY GIRLY" was just branded into the name "My Little Pony" but a friend of mine named Charon, made me watch it with him XD as he was sad over having none to watch it with him~ I was REALLY fighting against liking the show for like the first 6 episodes o.o I could feel deep down inside of me there was a like for the characters, but I basically stuck my fingers into my ears and yelled to ignore it. I think a lot of people react to MLP this way, and most of those who do react this way, just keeps on doing so, ignoring their true feelings instead of embracing them XD anywho, glad you learned to embrace your true feelings like all others who like MLP :3
I wasn't fighting it - I just wasn't interested. I got tons of better stuff to do.
But, since I'm not into TV or shows on the internet, I thought I give MLP:FiM a try,
since there was so much hype about it. And yes, I found it quite charming and in
comparsion to the older MLP, this one isn't aimed at any gender or age demographic.
It's just one of those cases when you can't judge the book by it's cover and when
there is more than meets the eye. ;)

I mean my mentality was fighting it WHILE I was watching it XD It might be more due to the more stubborn nature of mine I got from my father, so my stubbornness wouldn't admit defeat, or my "manliness" wouldn't want to admit defeat to the cute girly ponies X3 which is quite weird as I am very emotional and quite a bit girly XD and yes, one certainly can't judge a book by its cover for sure, for it is very charming and sweet :P hur hur hur, I saw what you did there mister X3 *gives him 3 internets* the good old transformers ftw~
I have to admit that besides having nothing to watch, one of the main reasons why I've checked this show out was because...
... I got into zen philosophy. :D
And letting go of the known concepts, such as those you've stated - "manly", "girly", "bad", "wrong" or even "you", "me" or "I" - is one of the main things that are important in it.
Thus, one of my first ways of training in zen was to sit down, without either wanting or not wanting, and watch some MLP:FiM - "just because". :P

*Nods* I see :O I do like Zen Philosophy, I just like philosophy in general~ and the discussion and comparison to the many there exists~ either way, I think that is quite the thing to actually do =) not many does that kind of thing, and I have tried to do it before, try to block out ones preconceived notions towards something so you can go in with a blank slate, not that good at it myself though~ but I try! D: so good for you in practicing such open-minded ways and good for you to discover a decent cartoon :) I give you huggles! *Lots of huggles!*
Either it's just our weak will or the authors are masters of some dark, arcane arts.
I take comfort in a fact that the main animator and supervisor worked on Powerpuff Girls before.
I told my friend about the fact that I watch MLP and find it quite fun and he associated it with the old MLP,
so I explained to him that new series is done by the animator of PPG to which he replied "oh, then it must
be at least decent. Send me a link".
I didn't. I care too much about his safety. :D

we ARE talking about the directing genius of Lauren Faust, Who helped in Powerpuff girls, Foster's home for imaginary Friends, and countless others.
there's the musical genius of Daniel Ingram, and of course, the fact that hasbro made some GOOD business decisions to get that far

well that show isn't magic THAT'S for sure.
I have watched the first episode. now i may freely judge without being too hypocritical. and my judgement on the charge of being a lame show for anyone not over the age of 12. is GUILTY! seriously unless you are an unempowered woman.. or man I guess. there is little reason to watch this in my opinion

That's a opinion shared by many other people, and that's fine.
I like to watch any random show targeted for kids from time to time, having in mind that these shows are created by adults after all. Hence, they must also take some pleasure in doing their work and enjoy seeing the results and not just their paycheck.
I've also drawn some stuff purely for kids, at a request from my mother, since she's a school teacher and for our local culture centre. Kids liked that and I liked the fact that they liked it. So, for me, thinking that an adult can't enjoy a kids show is a fallacy.

It's a good thing you've added other real skills. Thus, I understand that you find skills releated to arts degree as a "real" ones, which many, quite sadly, don't.
Yeah, art students have few other options but to work in commercial buisness, that's the nature of the market. And I agree what I guess you're trying to imply, which is modern approach of getting one specialization and having no others. Luckly, that point of view is fading as crisis forces to be diversified which I strongly approve, despite economical situation. I believe one should have various skills and not just one. The way of thinking that one should be specialized in only one direction is a good one when everything is fine with the market, thus, everyone will have it's own place in it but it's impossible to have this kind of situation in a capitalistic and democratic society. Even social democratic one. It was so in communism, but we know how that kind of system ended up.

Just so you know, it is widely agreed among people who love the show, that the first two episodes of it.. is kinda crappy compared to all the other episodes XD so, not truly able to judge the show off something even the people who like it thinks is crappy X3 The two first episodes serve only one purpose, to set up everything for the REAL show and the real goods of it~ if you want to judge it, watch a later episode and then pass judgement :)
Yep, the two first episodes don't encourage potential viewers to follow the show for a longer while. That is why I've choosen random one and it featured this "wub wu" face above and the next one was with... um... Pinkie Pie going insane, because nobody wanted to take part in party she was throwing. Two first episodes were weak, yes, they served their purpose of setting the backstage and major characters, but they didn't highlited the show's strenghts.
Still, you can form an opinion just by watching the first ep. Maybe not on the plot, because that'd be a little bit unfair, but based on visuals or audio side of the show.

Sounds like a bad plot to me if i had whatched a random episode the excus would be that I don't understand and need to watch the earlier episodes. Or until I've watched it all and by then ill have wasted all that time of my life that I could spend watching some entertaining cartoons like naruto* believe it!
*sarcastic since naruto is several steps below. Mlp BELIEVE IT!

Like I've said before~ that the pilot episode of pretty much ANY series isn't even half as good as later episodes, or reflect everything of later episodes anywhere near as good o.o you can clearly tell quality goes up over time, so sure, judge the series solely on the first episode aka the pilot. Your judgement will be very poorly based though~ My question to you is, why hate on a show? o.o it doesn't do anything bad, it merely entertains people and makes them happy X3 is that a BAD thing? XD
I often cease to view more episodes after first ep., because I'm selective. I don't have much time to spend on watching TV or something over the net, thus I have to pick by small snippets of the whole. And, yes, sometimes I may omit a very good show, but that's how it goes in my case, at least.
Second thing - I don't see any hate you're talking about from Greg_Cole side. Dislike, sure and that's understandable.
Hate? If anyone hate any show, then he ought to have chill down a bit. I understand, although barely, hate for the sudden boom and ubiquitous presence of MLP releated media, but to hate a show?
I don't like, for example, Twilight, I read half of the book, I was thrown off by bad writing, but I don't hate it. In my opinion, it'd be quite stupid of me to hate any written, visual or musical medium. I can simply not read it, watch it or listen to it. But I can hate the fact that someone is stuffing something into my private sphere, which I cannot avoid - like, let's say, Lady Gaga. I don't like her music but I don't hate her. I may hate industry for playing it 24/7 in every bigger store, radio station, etc., etc.
Same with some MLP fans - their activity is, in many cases, annoying and they flood places I visit, like FA, with MLP releated content. Luckly I like MLP now, so I have nothing against it, but the omnipresence of it can be tiring. And, in case of some people - lead to hate.

Never said the show was a bad thing. Infact I said it was good for young girls as it empowers them (so i'm told). I think its great for young girls in a society that wants them to conform and obey. (much like it does to men though it hasn't been pointed out as much ANYWAY!) I've said its not for me. I don't like it and that my opinion is its not for people over the age of 12.
My hate goes to the fans that are ALL OVER you when you say you don't like it. or Run the thing into the GROUND! Over and Over and Over and Over and Over and Over! that's right portal fans I'm looking at YOU!

I wasn't amused either by first minutes of it. That was my initial approach when the series surfaced - I watched few clips on youtube from it. But I came back to it as I've seen that it was very succesful. And then I liked it. IMO, it's not too fair to judge the show just seeing the part of it and not the bigger part - and 22 minutes aren't that much.
But then again, I don't watch much TV or online shows, so I could afford not to be picky and selective and spend some time with it.
And here's the result.

I started by watching one of the "cutie-mark crusader" episodes, and was like "Bleh, this friggin' sucks." Didn't try again until several months laters and decided to watch from the first episode.
Suddenly OMFG PONIES EEEE<3
But the ultimate question still remains... Rainbow Dash, or Fluttershy?

The change in the last frame is pretty much a tracing...
In my case, I had a kiddie divide with girls from my neighbourhood about Ponies vs. Transformers.
So, I was kind of skeptical towards new series. But then I saw :
1) it was in flash
2) it was done by gal who did PPGirls
3) it became a hit between GUYS between 14-30 years of age
So, I thought I'd try it... and that's the whole story.

I only started watching this out if curiosity. I am not a full brony, and I do not spend my time buying, selling, or drawing or any of that kind of stuff that bronies do. I just watch the show. To tell you the truth, yes, the show has vibrant colors, simplistic design, as well as light and soft story\plot with several jokes being placed there and there. I generally watch cartoons, sue me, but this show has a great timing for their jokes, plot written with meaning and almost no continuity gap ( seriously, the only show where they have regularly reference the earlier episodes ), plus an important part of it, the characters, mostly main ones, have very deep, though out personalities that allows many people to either relate to them or feel like they are real. Plus, the show has some creepy moments, episodes like "Party of One" and "Return of Harmony" for example.
