Thus has been told the story of Aurora the Lion. Born to unknown parentage at the dawn of civilization, within an oasis in the blazing heat of Egypt. Sworn to fealty to her Lord, and loved in return by him. She ascended to the pinnacle of royalty, aside her dearesr prince. Together they sat above all other lions, as paradigms of nobility. Sadly, as everything is bound to end, so was the happiness she had fought hard to find. She was felled by the cruel spear of an initiate hunter, the head piercing her insides with no apology. Her King returned to find a broken body, and a hunter standing with pride. Stirred with the anger of revenge, he struck the hunter, killing him, and taking the spear into his heart, breaking it. As he died he felt a unique destiny fall upon him. As though a final gift from Aurora, the spear imbued into his soul the gift of immortality, and he awoke, a new creature, the next morning.
So the King became the Exile, and chose his place of greatness among humans. For his skills, he was tasked with the protection of the Pharaoh, and all knew of his might. The royal house, for all he had done, offered him a gift... a Tomb of Splendor for his fallen Aurora. They built the likeness of a lion out of the sand, surrounding the tomb in which he had buried his Queen. And so she rests to this day, beneath the tribute to her life, the Queen of the Sphinx.
