Not in all areas, like Japan and China, because in japan, kitsune is the word used for avrage every day foxes. I think the reason why we call them kitsune in the west is because they come from Japan and we first heard them being called kitsune, so people on this side of the world throght that's what they were called and continued to called the fox spirits, kitsunes. ^-^
