So, during Grammar class I doodled up this guy. I'm a big fan of the New Lunar Republic concept, but that aside, Luna must have had her own guards and followers. I doubt everyone saw the night as a negative thing, after all, in order to grow the crops the Earth ponies would require the night ...
Solemn Sage is an older pony, who's family line comes from a long line of ponies still loyal to Luna. For ages they have waited for the return of their beloved princess. Sage, while no longer a young colt himself, is proud that he is one of the first in his family line to be able to serve their one true ruler; Princess Luna

Thanks, it's so much fun to just think about what's possible outside of the things that the show gives us! While not shown in the show, I'm positive both Princesses have Earth Pony guards/followers as well. I feel that most ponies who are still related to Luna's original guard shave more faded colours ... *flails*
I completely agree again! I tend to get sucked into fandoms like that, and the whole triangle between Discord, Luna and Celestia also always keeps me busy ... It's lovely to have a cast with such an interesting supporting characters.
This is erm ... the second pony I've drawn (somehow sculpting happened first)- I gotta say they're crazily addictive though, I keep wanting to sketch them now XD
