FBA Dream Match #1
Devon Kellendyne (Cacomistle, G, BLX)
vs.
Buck Hopper (Rabbit, G, STA)
You're a young bench player from Northern California. And you're face-to-face with one of the greatest legends of the FBA.
But it's even more than that. He's also from Northern California, not far from where you grew up. Before you made the league, he was your idol. You watched his games, you cheered him on, told all your friends how he's the best athlete ever. You had a poster of him on your wall, you had his rookie card, you dreamed of one day being able to meet him. Except you were thinking it would be at a press event, not here on the court.
He hits you with his double-cross move. It's so damn quick. Practice taught you how to follow the move, but no one in training ever did it that fast. You've seen him pull that move on TV, but in front of you, it's ten times faster. Your feet slip trying to follow, your legs buckle, you feel your hip hit the wood as you fall. He runs past you, having humiliated you in front of the audience. It's over. He's the best player in the league, and you're just a sophomore on a struggling team. It was so easy for him to mix you up, to throw you off, and put you there on the floor where you can't do a thing.
Except he doesn't know you learned something from watching him all those years.
That you never give up.

Not really, because just because a player has a long tail doesn't mean he or she is good at using it during a game. There are a handful of players who can steal, dribble, even shoot with their tails, but learning to do that effectively takes TONS of practice. Most players just wouldn't bother, as it's too much work for too specialized an ability, sort of like doing an under-the-leg dunk in the NBA. Yeah, guys can do it, but if THAT'S your focus, coach has got some words for you.
In this case, Kellendyne isn't known for being a tail-stealer at all. He's just refusing to give up. He could have easily gotten a reach-in foul on this play, but the cacomistle got lucky.

The FBA allows players to poke at the ball with their tails subject to standard basketball rules. They can always make contact with the ball, but not with the ballhandler. Here, Kellendyne was able to knock out the ball without touching Hopper's wrist, so the move is legal.
Thanks, Frosty! I love finding ways to make the FBA more 'furry', and make sure that the type of basketball they play is one clearly built around anthros, not just copied human basketball. I love the idea of players being able to steal with their tails and have been wanting to get a picture made of someone stripping B-Hop like this. Thankfully,
kmhirosaki created the perfect character for the pic, not just by using a species with a long tail, but also setting him up as a fellow Northern Californian who could have idolized Hopper in his younger years. That extra depth adds punch, I find. :)

Thanks! That was really important to me, to make sure it looked like both were caught off guard. Kellendyne isn't doing this move because he's perfected it a thousand times in practice. He's doing this move as a desperate attempt to keep defending. He's just as surprised as B-Hop that it worked. :)
The Mudpuppies! Yeah, it's kind of weird-- I made a rule when I was first building up the FBA that none of the teams could be named after an animal, since it would seem prejudicial in a furry world if one were called the Wolves or the Lions or something. I don't know how Mudpuppies slipped by, but thankfully no one has submitted a mudpuppy basketball player yet.
And B-Hop immediately turned around and grabbed the ball again, since Devon couldn't get it, still being on the ground. XD
Seriously though, amazing work here! The expressions are great! The jerseys are great! (Mudpuppies jersey looks wonderful in this pic!), the colors are great, the poses, the background elements... and of course the message!
Great job all around! ^__^
