The saguaro cactus is truly an amazing plant. Let me put this in perspective:
It takes a minimum of 60 years for one of these cacti to start growing just one arm. Usually, by then, they're at least ten feet tall. The bush underneath this one is about 8 feet tall and is dwarfed by the saguaro.
They are rather intimidating plants.

"Right, mates: here's the battle plan. The enemy's going to come marching over that field, but in order to get to us, they're going to have to go through the dense forest we're about to plant. Only this ain't going to be a forest of aspens or some cutesy tree; no, this is going to be a saguaro forest, and we're going to fill it with native wildlife: sidewinders, scorpions, and really big spiders. Get to planting; the menagerie will be here tomorrow, and you don't want to be in the forest when we set 'em loose."
