This is a character I developed and drew over twelve years ago, after being bored with a couple of Nerf foam balls. I'm still amazed at how interesting the story of her evolution is, even though it was pretty much made up on the spot as I was drawing the first image of her (the final one, lower right).

All these images were drawn in 1995 or earlier, so that's why they're not like my usual style. I still love the design of the final stage of metamorphosis, the last three images.

One was inked in later (the second image, "advanced stages" ), but all the rest remained pencil. Most were on lined paper, as they were born of doodling sessions between projects at my job.

Nothing brings a certain level of cuteness to a bug-faced fly lady like a sassy ponytail and large hoop earrings. Hehe, I still get a kick over how casual she is in the last frame. How exactly is she drinking, anyway? Or driving a car?
