So, which of these have you seen?
I think I have seen a number of them, each one of them bad for their own reasons.

Of course! Personally, I think the deleting everything, whatever the reason, is the worst. It shows immaturity and lack of stability which is detrimental to your professional image. And nothing annoys me more than an attention seeker. At least there are some actual concerns for removing old artwork; there's just simply no good reason for deleting everything just because you're sad, angry or depressed.
And at least, if the artist is only deleting old work, you can still see their work. With artists who delete everything, you have to guess whether their gallery will have anything in it, depending on how they feel. :/

I realize this now but sometimes it's difficult especially for someone that has a lot of issues irl. In FA sexual art is extremely popular, so to me it was really painful getting 20 views on a drawing that took me 3 days and i put a lot of work on then i doodled some penis in 4 minutes and it got 300 views in 15 minutes. Basically that made me feel like artwork effort was meaningless (unless you're an art God), and anyone that can draw a half assed porno will get their art appreciated
That's about how it is.
Call me a whore but most of what I draw IS hyper male and herm stuff, and I don't draw clean stuff as I know how little people care about it.
So I can understand how painful such things are.
Take what I do, I put tons of work into a picture of a character noone cares about so it gets little attention, make a symmetrical picture of a character everyone loves, put little effort into it, and it gets TONS of faves.
So I know your pain.

I like porn like everyone else, but there's more than just that to enjoy. It's funny cause my rl friends don't really like porn but online no one cares about my clean art. So I either have to deal with that "draw for yourself" bullshit or end up not drawing at all cause there's just no motivation bleh. I'm sorry i'm over-ranting x.x
The counterpoint is the entitled viewer who believes they have a privilege to see an artist's work, even if said artist is uploading it in good faith on their own volition.
While spurious deletion is annoying, its also not great when 'fan-guilt' is applied. "But you owe it to your fans!!!" "You need to keep this art up because people want to see it!" et cetera. Conflating a nice thing to do with an obligation. Furry art fans can be pretty expectant about what they 'deserve' at times
Not that I don't agree that some people make it a silly thing with their constant deletion and restores - but most of the time it seems to a reflection of internal struggles. Some people are just dramatic and jerks, but if the issue is personal shit, I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Well, some people want to control or set a specific image for future buyers (Like it or not, as soon as you add money into the art equation, marketing becomes a factor.). Some people change their mind about particular preferences. Some people want to hide certain material after a backlash. Some people use it as a statement...All of those might cause 'better' states for the artist if it sets their goal. But really, its not necessarily a question of better or worse. It's just a persons decision on what they want to do with their own created material.. Sometimes we might say the decision is bad, but...its their own stuff. They can do what they like with it.
I agree its a shame when people do that - delete for what I see as a pointless reason. But in the scheme of things, its their stuff and their choice. I personally don't like getting berated on things I choose to do ("You played that game instead of the new one? You must be dumb?" "You ate at that place?" "You wrote about furry stuff rather than doing something productive? Whats wrong with you!", etc, etc), so I tend not to want to do it to others even if the result is one that will negatively effect me - Unless I have some stake in it, that is.
And, yes, fans might stalk, but if you pull up on FA and block everyone, one will probably cut many of them. And the stalkers are bad no matter what one does. One just has to try and be persistent.

I think I've seen the "trash old art" one most.
I hate when an artist deletes their pics, but the "old trash" one I think is the worst. I think it's a good idea to keep your old pics you people have a "then and now comparison."
Like the old saying goes: How do you know where you're going if you don't know where you've been, right?

Hmm...I think the ones that bug me are the combination of the two right side ones. Sad/wants attention BAAAAWWWWLEEEEET. X..x urgh. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some legitimate reasons for things, but other times not so much. I do realize that it's the artist's prerogative to delete things they are no longer associated with, or had a traumatic experience with, or hell, even their own galleries.
Just because they have the right to do so, doesn't mean you have to be happy about their decision, I don't think. Then again...there's limits to what's considered one's right to be angry...and then going into troll/stalker/creepy fan mode....buuuh... *shivers*
Anyways I'm rambling XD The picture's funny and pretty well done :3

BEtter Artist and sad face. It's really annoying.
A better artist just stops caring and the sad artist just deletes stuff. Told you about one guy like that, didn't I? He now also goes all emo, but he writes in his profile that he tends to delete his whole gallery and art collection. So it's not like he thinks it's bad or he'll try to fight against it, he just does this.... and we have to deal with it

Seriously? ... I used to be like this, but I've never deleted anything like this. But either-way I've changed now, I'm more confident and stronger, things like this don't get me down so much, I've evolved, I've changed, I've improved.... and it's wrong of me to do that?
Or are they saying that those people are talented artists so we don't have a right to complain? I'm sorry, but as much as I like the thought of "a creator bring a superior person to a jackass who just sits on his ass doing nothing", this is taking it way too far. He posts something => he has to take responsibility for it.

I guess so. But just look at the comments of Xaxoqual and EddytheOkapi, they defend the idea of deleting pictures.
I guess one for instance I think up for this is as follows;
Let's say in real life you make a piece of art, the medium it is in does not matter. Let's say you are given permission to put your work in an art gallery. Well then you become one of these four faces, does that give you the right to go to the art gallery and remove your art from it? Wouldn't that seem rude to the people looking to enjoy your art?

Perhaps it's just the thing with commissions. They want to earn money. It frustrates me, cause we admire the artist and they don't upload commissions themselves, they just let the commissioner upload it to their gallery. I hate that. How am I suppose to know he/she drew this sort of thing?
Would it be considered an achievement (obviously not the good kind) that I did three of the four in one go (albeit instead of nobody pays attention to my art/delete for attention it was nobody paid attention to me as a person/delete because I was legitimately trying to leave)?
However, now that I've become at least a little more mature about things, if I did in fact leave or take a long hiatus (which I actually did for a six month stint earlier this year), I wouldn't delete anything, and probably wouldn't even leave a journal about it...Not like anyone reads my journals anyway. >.-.>;

Don't worry about it. I get that reaction quite often. ^.-.^;
I think that if I got even one or two people replying to journals most of the time I'd be okay with that, but it's like it doesn't matter what I say, whether it's asking what my watchers want me to draw to positive or negative life events to even just things about me that I would like to share. Really, the only way I can get much response is if I am a total troll, which I have done my best to stop doing since it's immature and doesn't get a positive response.

Scraps folder!
When I'm feeling overly sensitive and/or dramatic, I'll shuffle any drawings that currently offend my sensibilities into there. If said pictures are old and not representative of my current work, it's super easy to ammend the description to point this out.
The only problem there is expecting people to either look in Scraps or read submission info.

THIS is why I save so many pictures to my computer, especially when I suspect the person is a lower left "elitist" type. I also do so when I suspect an artist is "going commercial" and privatizing their work or putting big fat watermarks on their stuff. (which technically I might be doing myself soon. Still up in the air though)
I don't believe I have ever encountered lower right though.

I say the 'mad' one. The 'sad' one diverts my attention to the artist. The 'better' one just makes me mutter 'Fanna'(1).
(1 = I played a lot of Persona Sin.)

the biggest offender for this wasnt actually an artist. I used to avidly follow the many works of Muleboy. he wrote really awesome stories, and his primary story was nearing the climax (no pun intended). then suddenly he erases EVERYTHING, apparently he decided to go back and revise all of his work. that was over a year ago. he has so far not uploaded one single story. anywhere. no blog updates either. almost as bad as Nim Maj (Fanfiction writer, wrote Herald of the Void, epic fic, supposed to be continued in "Through the World Door", but after lots of discussion and teasers in a forum thread, he literraly vanished after saying that his college exam courses were upcoming. no new updates on whats going on, nothing.)
Oh I know, I was saying that I never really witnessed the other two.
In regards of the last two, I find them to be the most absurd, like...
Why delete your older art pieces? Why not keep them up and show people how much you evolved as an artist?
If nobody's paying attention to your art, then why not try expanding your audience (i.e submitting them into different groups)?
That's just my two cents. :P
