awe. I hand make my hammocks for my rats ^^ I make them tube shaped instead. They don't like them being open like that. I tried it XD

lol so...he's... lazy? XD Lazy enough to jump and fall than to climb? Maybe get a thick rope to go across? Or put the hammock over top something more solid so it's a short fall and you reduce the chance of harm.
