Well the train in the movie was a berksure. but i was tolled from a train expert saying that the people used digital tech to computerized PM 1225 to make it in the movie.

yeah, the loco that the Polar Express engine was based on was PM 1225 but I presume that this engine, 757 is a Nickle Plate Road 2-8-4 built by Lima? IIRC they, and the Berks built for PM were of the same design and differed only in 'road specific equipment'.

The PM Berks are N-1s. NKP berks are S2s. And RedTailFox is correct, they are almost identical in design, just different railroad specs. S3 Berkshires did exist, and were owned by the Erie Railroad if I’m correct. But these looked nothing like the engine in the Polar Express. A headlight inside of a smokebox is impractical and would never work. All headlights on any steam engine are either on the smokebox door, or on the top front edge of the smokebox face. If a headlight was inside the smokebox, it would probably be burnt up by everything going on inside. It would also just look weird, but Warner Bros. just made it work, look, and feel right. If you want to see 1225 in person, she operates in Ossowo, Michigan. To hear the Polar Express’ whistle, it currently is used by Sierra Railway No. 3.

Ah yes, that they do. The irony is, I like the LOOKS of them more than the motors inside. Give me an Alco diesel shell with a genset inside, and I'd be happy as a clam. :)
