Nothing quite so exciting. They're repainting the base of the dome, a process that involves to stripping off all the old paint, which is primarily lead-based. The company I work for monitors the process to make sure lead doesn't escape the contained work area. I've only been there a couple times this year when they need someone to fill in for the guy we regularly have there. The job is kind of bleh but the view is awesome.
It is a rare view indeed from that angle! I miss being able to walk into the US Capitol Building unescorted and no one was as paranoid as they were today in these times. Its a shame we have some to this level. Used to be able to go up some back stairs and get on the roof. Now ya cant do that any more without passing checkpoints and having been cleared.
