Concept sketch from a few years ago for Eros. In the GSIF/ Extinctioners fan-fic timeline, she is one of the paternal twins (her brother being Enaid) borne to Cinaed and Effiona. Farther down the line, she is the mother of Terry from Season II.

Still kind of up in the air about her powers. Eros and Enaid are paternal twins (as stated above) and their parents are a plasmakinetic and a psychic. Originally, I believe I had just given them the same abilities as their parents but switched the gender roles (with the female, Eros, having heat control and the male, Enaid, being the psychic) but that just kind of seems like a cop-out.
Any suggestions? How do you think the parent-child connection should work? It is reasonable that children would inherit an ability similar to that of their parents or should they get something completely original?

well honestly inhereting powers is one of those subjects that a lot of people tend to have conflicting opinions about. The general idea seems to be that if either of the character's parents had powers that they will automatically have powers which tends to ignore genetics entirely. I've always been taught that if two people with powers have kids the possibility of those children having powers will be high (75% chance) as opposed to children with only one hybrid parent who's chances would have roughly a 50% chance of getting powers from the hybrid parent. The chances of powers manifesting from a normal couple would be understandibly low (25% or lower).
Even if the child in question happened to inheret powers from one or both of his parents the likelyhood of that child having the exact same powers as either parent are actually rather low (unless you're dad was Wolverine apparently, in which case expect claws, heightend senses, and a healing factor). Depending on the powers of both parents it would be far more realistic to expect either a power similiar to both parents if they had compatible powers (thus 2 psychics would make a stronger psychic), a diluted or completely random set of powers if the parents powers clashed (ex. probability manipulation (luck based powers) w/ invisibility could get you someone with a sonic scream or other random power), while someone with one powered parent or who just manifested powers randomly could probably have a wider selection of powers available to them.
Honestly I like the idea of a character with hybrid parents not having any powers simply because it isn't done that often, in the case of these two it's feasible though that one or both kids would probably have powers though not necessarily the same kind as their parents since they have vastly different powers (i imagine pyrokinesis is different from plasmakinesis). I suppose it really depends on what you're aiming for with these two.

These two will most likely be used just as a stop-gap. They are not slated to appear at all in my main story project and were really only created for the fan-fic GSIF Universe.
Alesia (my main story project) is kind of like Earth-1 from the DC Universe for me, and the GSIF/ Extinctioners world would then be Earth-2. A few of the characters from Alesia were ported over to the GSIF universe when the fan-fics first got off the ground (Effiona, Cinaed and Ciardha). But once there, they started to build up their own continuity and connections. So much so that other than name and powers, I have to consider them separate characters.
Back to the discussion however - I do like the way you are thinking. You're thinking like using a Punnett Square to determine the probability of the children having powers. Thinking of hybrid abilities in the same way as you'd think of blood type or eye color (AA, Aa, aA, aa)
Eros' parent's are both hybrids and her son is a hybrid, so she could be an Aa. A carrier of the gene for special abilities, but not one in which they might actually manifest. Her brother could be an Aa as well, but I've hinted in his couple of appearances that he does have a power. That could make Eros feel even more like the family outcast; knowing that everyone in the family but her has a power.

So basically a couple of characters you made for the hell of it? I've done that before, what if? scenarios are always fun since they give you a bunch of possibilities you wouldn't normally have.
Transdimensional characters are tricky but they make for some interesting characters all the same, at the same time it's completely normal though. A lot of the characters I have I made for one thing but wound up using for something else, very few of them still double for their original purpose.
Pretty much yeah, basic genetics can pretty much explain the dispersal of powers among family members and the like.
Even if Eros doesn't have powers the chances that she would be a carrier would be very good, though again the chances that any children she had would have powers would still depend on her spouse having powers or not and a few other factors . Once again there's no real guarantee since things will get diluted with each generation with a non powered parent, the gene will still be there regardless but the chance of it activating naturally of its own accord would be relatively slim.
Characters who's powers have skipped a generation tend to be appealing to me since it's interesting to see how they'll cope without the same advantage as their parents (and siblings), to me it makes them more dangerous since they have become more resourceful and perhaps excell in certain areas. Good examples are Foxy and Sly in Extinctioners and Batman in DC, characters without powers that are constantly surrounded people with superpowers and yet find a way to not only hold their own but wind up outshining them half the time.
