Gemma seems to be going through some positive changes in her character since the story started, but from what I understand, she's had her guard up far too long. Life doesn't need to be a fairytale, but for someone like Gemma, one kiss isn't going to be enough to convince her to let someone get close enough. She seems to be the type who believes that they can't change. What I think though... is that she's afraid to find out. She's afraid of what could happen if after all this time she suddenly starts letting people care for her. I'm hopping he doesn't give up, because I really think he can get through to Gemma with time.
I am such a sap. Raw emotional content is my krptonite, and I don't think it can get much rawer than this. Previous comments on the previous panel all still apply here, but for this one, I've got to point out the expressions on the characters faces are like a punch in the emotional gut. It's hard to pick favorites out of this comic, but this is one of them.
