Recently my friend 
MKbuster's uploaded a piece called "Pesky Fishes" where his OC Chan was being visited by a few naughty fish underwater. I made the comment that I (my fursona, Nate) wished I was a fish so he could swim up against her skin and explore her "caves". He dubbed me Natefish. And then our mutual friend. 
jabberwockychamber had to say that someone should draw Nate as a fish, and thus this was born. Nate seems less than pleased to have been granted his wish.
