Ages ago elves lived on Earth . To escape the harsh conditions of the ice-age, as well as competition with primitive humans most fled to other worlds through dimensional portals. Others, however, took a different rout, Taking refuge in caverns deep underground. Using lava beds as a source of heat and energy, these elves eventually built an advanced civilization utilizing a form of dark science which combines technology with sorcery. However, living a subterranean life has come at a cost for these "dark elves". Their eyes developed sensitive night vision for seeing in the dim light of their realm. Also they lost all pigmentation in their skin making them highly vulnerable to sunlight. As a result the Dark elves have permanently lost any ability to come to the surface except at night.
The Dark elves current monarch is Queen Nafferra , who ascended the throne at the age of eleven when her father was killed in a cave-in. Even so young, Nafferra has taken the burden of ruler with conviction. Though aloof, She does not place herself above her people and has shown that she cares for them and takes great strides in providing them with all their needs.
The one thing, however Nafferra has been unable to give her people is the surface. She feels that the Dark elves have live far too long beneath the feet of humans. Although she does not bare any malice towards the "sun dwellers" Queen Nafferra has vowed that she will See her subjects given their rightful place under the sky. No matter the cost.
