If my memory serves me well,
once saw an illustration of Space Pirates being cutesy designed and each designated some rank, and noticed how Penny would fit the scientist type (since Pirates resemble bugs, and his OC Penny is a Scizor, steel/bug type Pokemon, AND a science prodigy). It's been a long time ago but I decided to actually try that out, and tossed her into one of the most embarassing situations Space Pirates got themselves in. For those who don't understand:
In one of the logs from Metroid Prime, it has been mentioned how Space Pirates attempted to mimmick some of Samus' Power Suit functions, most notably Morph Ball, and all attempts ended up with the test subjects being horribly crushed and mangled, forcing the Pirates to abandon all further research-reason being that they thought Morph Ball transforms Samus into a ball literally, when it actually doesn't-Morph Ball first transforms Samus into a ball of energy, then the Power Suit itself morphs into a metal sphere that surrounds the energy.
Sooo, yeah, there you go Penny-months of research gone down the fucking drain. XD

What I liked most about reading Pirate Logs in the Prime games wasn't just that it fleshed out the Pirates as more 3-dimensional antagonists, but also because it made me feel like a cheeky asshole for cracking all their encrypted secret stuff with zero effort. It's like reading their diaries, I almost feel bad about it but then I get distracted by their hilarious failures and angry, arrogant rants about dealing with Chozo ghosts and Dark Samus.
