Flag of the (FICTIONAL) Holy Christian Kingdom of North Amer

PLEASE NOTE: This is just an idea I had. I'm not poking fun at the Southern states, or Christians, or whatever else. It is not my intention to cause offense, though I realise that this is rather a hotbed of controversy. If anyone can suggest other options for representing the Southern states, I'm all ears. I'm not an American, so I can look at this objectively, but obviously others won't.
This is my design for the HCKNA. The Kingdom occupies roughly the same area that the Confederacy did during the American Civil War of the 1860s, hence my use of the Confederate flag in the canton. The cross is gold (#FFD700, to be exact), representing holiness (as indicated in much religious iconography by a halo), fimbriated in white to symbolise purity.
THIS IS A FICTIONAL NATION IN A FICTIONAL UNIVERSE SET SOME 300 YEARS IN THE FUTURE. I'm not the one who came up with it -- I just provided a possible flag design.

Well, I must admit you got courage as this is one of the more touchy ones of the flags and themes.
Hope you don't get too many negative replies and that people will actually read it's a fictional flag and that no other intentions are made with it.
That said, I do like the design mostly.
I probably would have either placed the holy cross over the blue one, or placed the stars in the cross if I had been told to make a flag with that cross and that flag?

I'm sure there's a better way to represent that area than using the Confederate flag; it's not exactly my first choice either, and I now understand how people feel about it.
I think posting this wasn't so much courage (as I had no idea that it would evoke such reactions) as perhaps stupidity or ignorance. The design is a hybrid of the US flag (using the proportions for the flag size and canton size) and a general British Commonwealth (such as New Zealand's) flag, which has the Union Jack in the canton, and a national symbol in the fly.

Oops - hit Post too soon.
Please do feel free to ignore the ignorami who think you're taking a poke at the South, too. The only potential problem I see from a heraldic standpoint is that this resembles a merchant shipping flag more than anythings else; a national flag in canton on a blue field is largely used for that purpose. That said, it's a clean, crisp design (cleaner and crisper than mine, if it comes to that) and would look well flying above the palace of His Most Christian Majesty.

I've known some of the flag terminology for a while -- 'fimbriated' is a much more specific word than 'outlined'.
The Blue Ensign is indeed a naval flag, but many flags are based on it, including that of Australia and (most of) its constituent states/territories and New Zealand.

I'm a Christian Southerner and I fail to see how this would be offensive to someone like me. I actually like your design a lot!
Although I will say it reminds me of a navy/merchant ensign than it does a state/civil flag. But there's really nothing wrong with that, I mean it would make it stand out from other state flags. Besides that, Australia and New Zealand still have British ensign flags.

Thanks for the comment! It always feels a little weird getting a comment on something I posted so long ago. I think this is my best attempt at vexillology, and I haven't attempted another since I posted the other flags I made up. This one has the most obvious symbolism, whereas assigning meaning to a colour isn't quite the same.
