We medicated her to make the end painless, and I spent the hours after work keeping her company. She passed away just after midnight....
She almost was two, but we had celebrated earlier in the week. She had delicious butter flaky biscuits, corn and peas and all sorts of fixings from christmas. She had a great holiday and a great ratty life.
Buried beside all the other rats, including her loving sister Coconut.
Goodbye Kiwi bear...

she sounds like she was very well loved and very very cherished of a companion..
I hope that she will rest in the heavenly reward given to those beloved pets we all have that touch our lives in the days we exist under the sky and if there is true love and sweet compassion in the universe, then when the time comes that we must leave this world for something beyond it.. It is the hope of this one that when that day comes, we shall be allowed to cross that bridge beyond the rainbow and step into the land where all our most beloved and missed furry companions will be there to greet us..
they will see and know us.. they will be as healthy and as happy and even more loving then we ever remembered..and they will be so glad to finally be able to touch our immortal lives again..
the tears will flow freely.. not of sadness.. but of a friendship renewed and of memories we cherished and held so dearly to our hearts will blossom again in our minds and our souls as our small companions with whom we've shared secrets.. held and given affection... and most of all, who were there for us when *WE* needed a very special form of comfort when our hearts were held low with either sickness or grief..
... they were there for us to take away some of those pains of what seems to be some of the worst times of our lives..
now, when that special day comes... they will be there again to give back to us some of the love, the understanding and let us bask in the joy that we had when they were alive, because now we can share a place under the sun with them once more.
May the goddess let our cherished loved ones of fur rest in peace until that special day comes for all of us of good hearts and souls that love and care for others and who look up at the night sky and still see dreams and wonders in the stars and the moon above.
