With little more than 24 hours left in the year, I figure it's a good time to look back on arts passed and reflect on what I've done this year.
Janurary: Silly Kitty!
I found this appropriate as the first 2011 pic to think back on, as it's the last pic I've done from a hand-drawn scan. Seemed poetic; beginning with an end, or some such cliche like that.
February: Valentine's Gift for Ryan
Aside from being sentimental, this was perhaps my first really serious attempt at the line-less full shade look. It was also one of my first "don't be scared of backgrounds and technical props" pics. Looking at it now, there's a lot I'd fix, but I'm still very proud of it.
March: Bonzzie Braids
I feel like this one is cheating, LOL. Adoptable designs I'd gotten from cookiehana, this was my first pic of them I'd done. It was an attempt to try for a looser style, something not quite so structured and more whimsical.
April: After the Sweep
Still one of my favorites, and still among my best "full" pictures, in my opinion. Like the subject and background really working together, and having really nice atmosphere. Also my first try at more realistic features on an animal face.
May: Necessary Skills
More of the same as with the previous month, but with an added bit of perspective work, as well as working with "non-conventional" character designs.
June: Showing You My Pokemans
I secretly love drawing Pokemon. Like really really love it. LOL This was at the beginning of that really bad funk I had over the summer, trying to do something more fun and non-serious just to keep things going. I really want to do more things like this.
July: Bird Flew
One of my pics I am most happy and proud of. I can't even describe how much work went into this, from how many drafts, to how many different versions and different shading techniques, and how different it actually ended up from my original idea. I don't have words really. I just love it.
August: Blue Girl
Starting to get out of that funk at this point, and still carrying on a bit of that experimenting and fantasy feel. I just wanted to draw sexy things. LOL
September: Keep a Mild Groove On
Wanted to work on a cartoony style, still wanting to loosen up. Bright colors, simplicity, fun and light.
October: Pipe and Steel!
This is also cheating, since I actually did this in November, but since it was a Halloween pic, I'm putting it under October! LOL Fun with textures, working on making dynamic action and ambiance. I like this a lot, as being something I feel is versatile yet recognizable.
November: Shasa and Razi
The culmination of the shading technique I was perfecting all year. LOL Also a start in trying to introduce more of my original characters.
December: On Top of the World
This is probably one of the favorites that I've done all year. It looks like something from a storybook; simple and bright. One of my favorite expressions and angle work. I want to continue in this vein more, and I think it's a great note to end on.
Here's to a great new year. I can't wait to see what 2012 brings!
