This is a genetically engineered, semi-sentient, semiautonomous scout and perimeter defense unit or "Gunbird," about the height of a large dog. They are favored by smugglers and covert mercenaries because they are stealthy, cooperate well in packs, and are more imaginative than AI drones, as well as being less expensive and therefore more expendable. The downside is that it is easier to become fond of them.
