"Forest Findings" is a mule deer antler with hand-carved designs, darkened with ink, and sealed with wax. At one end of the antler rests a partially inlaid quartz crystal with inclusions of black tourmaline throughout. Adorning the piece are strands of leather holding on to sage-green glass beads along with a polished shell bead and a leaf pendant, both held tight by gun-metal-colored copper wire.
I really enjoyed working on this piece. It ended up defining itself more than anything. I simply started with an antler and a desire to carve it. The rest just sort of happened as I continued to work the piece. Many thanks to Don Simpson for his advice and tips on dyeing carvings and sealing antler and bone!
The piece is roughly 13.5" long.
"Forest Findings" is for sale for $85 and would make a great addition to any nature-lovers home, whether it's for religious or spiritual work or simply a beloved decoration. If interested, please send me a note.
