My final still life for Drawing Class in 2011 (Mid December)
This one I'm actually very proud of.
The assignment was to set up and draw your own still life of various objects that mean alot to you and create a universal theme for you piece. The objects I chose was my aunt's violin, an amunition box which holds all my family portraits, various family photos (the oldest dating from 1910 and others of my great grandfather in his WWII uniform or of my family during the Great Depression or of my grandmother happily riding horses a few days before her unexpected death), a WWII bayonnett, an old pocket dictionary from the late 1800's, sugar ration, and a few nazi coins.
Overall this piece was to illustrate how much I love, cherish, and truly appreciate my family background and history. The WWII and Nazi stuff belonged to my Great Grandfather who served in the US military and brought back memories and precious items to be passed down for many generations. He loved his country and sired a son who then sired my father and my aunt (who played the violin in the high school orchestra).
My dad and I share a passion in genealogy. I love my family past and the wonderful stories I've heard.
I actually drew this for my dad for Christmas, but he doesn't know it yet.
graphite on bristol board.
