People who freak out about breastfeeding in public have serious issues. Shut the fuck up and let the baby eat.

Not much of a debate since we both agree on the act and the benefits from said act. And for why the growing anti breast feeding argument, I don't really have enough facts on hand, only my thoughts, and most are of the attack on the family and traditional values variety, and now you know the possible drama fire storm that could ensue, especially on this site.
I like what she did there. XD
BTW... it's perfectly natural for a baby and mom to do this. It promotes a deep bond, healthy immune system and it's how they eat. That's why formula fed children often get sick more, and they aren;t as close to their moms. >.>
And ya'll who think of this sexually disturb me to no end. Ya'll need to get yer damn minds outta the gutter ya sick freaks!
My 2 cents, take 'em or leave 'em.

While I do think that breast feeding is the number one route to take if you are able to, I do have a bit of an opposite view regarding the publicity. Not that a mother should be embarassed or ashamed, but I do think it shouldn't be something that just happens in the middle of a public place. There are too many perverts (as evident above) that are mentally ill enough to find it erotic which can make everyone around feel awkward for being there. A lot of completely normal and well intent people are put in a position where they feel it's rude to look away because it disrespects that mothers choice, but that it's socially unacceptable to look also because the act is sort of sacred between mother and child, so we're left feeling uncomfortable because a mother with a baby decided to use her right to show her boobs in public instead of just stepping away for a few minutes to feed her baby.
On top of that she likely wouldn't crack out a few jars of baby food and start spooning food into the kids mouth in the middle of a public area either because it's cluttered, messy, or distracting, so I don't much see a reason to need to breastfeed there either.
Just my two cents :] Funny drawing though :D

This is one of the oddest arguments against breastfeeding in public I've ever heard. heh.
i guess it's because i see it done so very often that it doesn't seem all that sacred to me. cx it's just.. food. it's not cluttered or messy. and a lot of people don't realize how demanding it is. my sister's new baby nurses every half hour during the day. if she had to step away every time she'd never get anything done!
also if we had to stop doing things because creepy people find them erotic, we'd have to stop wearing clothes, or kissing, or being a certain age or race. not gonna work.

You are absolutely right, I've never been to restaurants or to parks Perhaps the culture where I am, being in the (very political) capital city of my country, just has a different air to it, but people generally don't even bring their infants to restaurants here, at least not the restaurants I go to.
Babies small enough to be breast feeding usually have to eat very very often, while when they get to the point to be on real food they don't need food as often as well, so that may also why you don't see moms cracking open jars that often. Though I see that way more often than public breast feeding.
What happen zu the world, when did our natural body parts und our natural animal nature become taboo?
I mean scheesch, es just boobs, boys show off theirs all the time und hardly anyone ever says anything. [Thats right guys, men have breasts too, no use denying es]
Clothes were made mainly for protection against the environment, I don't know when es started controlling our lives -sigh-
Also zu note, I think people who "jack off" on something as natural as breast feeding, zu be totally creepy. Seriously, es for the baby, not for you. So get your minds out of the gutter!

Spelling equates to professionalism, and professionalism assists in you getting your point taken remotely seriously. I've never understood why this is such a hard concept to grasp.
And my point is raised; would you rather listen to the baby scream and cry for hours until the mother can find a suitably private place? Don't suggest a bathroom either, that's rather unsanitary for a child to eat in. In fact, what if you were stuck in an airplane with a hungry, screaming child? Would you rather listen to the kid for five hours, or rather have the mother feed him? I understand your point; however your point only works when removing the biological imperative of nutrition. And that kind of is the point in and of itself, ergo, your point is rather moot.

carnale is german if you couldnt get that from the posts, it is not broken, she is typing how she would speak seond your argument isnt turning anyone to the fact that your acting like an idiot and a troll, keep you oppinions to your self if you have nothing CONSTRUCTIVE to add
There are people who don't want to see me in public because i'm a death fatty. It doesn't mean I'm obliged to comply. It's none of their business if I go outside, or if I go to the beach. It's none of your business that a lady feeds her baby. How would you like it if someone came up to you in a fast food joint and told you that you needed to go eat in the bathroom because the idea of you shoveling dead cow down your gullet was offensive? you wouldn't like that, would you? you'd think "hey, it's none of their business". identical thing to expecting a nursing woman to make her very young child with no concept of time to oblige you instead of just sitting down and nursing the hungry baby. i bet you pass by nursing moms all the time and dont even notice it. unless you know what to look for, it's very easy to miss. (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/.....a/IMG_0940.jpg This is a more blatent picture because my partner is a photographer and wanted it to be artsy. still, easy to miss. we were in a crowded museum and nobody noticed)
thanks! it was hard, not because they are twins, but because i had to fight with breast strikes thanks to a not-baby-friendly hospital. i'd rather have homebirthed, but Jaya has a congenital heart condition, so they had to be born in a hospital so she could get her heart surgery right away.
I love this. I'm a total advocate for breast feeding, and I think it's great that women are able to do it in MOST public places without it being a problem. Because, let's face it, it's NOT a problem. You're feeding an infant. Get over it people. If I were able to breastfeed my daughter (I was unable due to some medical complications post-partum), you better believe I wouldn't care where I fed her, nor the looks or potential negative comments I would get.
On a side note, I know a girl I work with who just had a baby, and she said that she wants to pump her breast milk because although she wants her baby to have the best nutrition possible (at least that's what she WANTS people to think), she thinks it's "gross" to put her baby on her nipple. And the only reason she wants to pump instead of using formula is because her WIC counselor said it would help her lose weight faster. I just had to walk away from that conversation before I smacked her. What about the bond you're sharing with your child? What about the closeness you will feel? Or simply the CONVENIENCE of breastfeeding! Seriously, pumping is going to get old, FAST. I don't know what your thoughts on this are, but I just thought I would share

i may be one of those "Creepers" your talking about but i dont get off form a BABY breastfeeding i get off by ME breastfeeding, my girl has agreed to it if we have kids, i like the sentual nature of it an breastmilk is far better for you then cow milk cause it has more of the nutriants every human needs look up the chemical make up of breast milk and you wull see that it holds several vitamins and minerals as well as enzimes to help boost immune function. those same nutriants are in cow milk yes but only before the pasturization process, after that process their artificially added. veiw in point, breastfedd your child, who knows, you may be increacing their life expectance if now their initial heal
Just put your shirt over the baby's head. The baby can still breathe because the way the shirt lies creates a sort of tent with gaps between the shirt and body on both sides, thus allowing air to get to the child. That way, you can feed your baby, it can breathe, and no one has to deal with "omg bare boob in public."
So really, I don't see the issue here. :/

Women would come into my workplace (JoAnn Fabrics) and buy fabric to make their own "covers" to drape over their front when breastfeeding. They said it was a pretty fashionable thing to do these days and they made them in all sorts of fun designs. I bet they are on Etsy somewhere.
I agree, i'd rather see a nifty cover than be eating at a restaurant and suddenly.. BOOOOOB. O_O
I suppose my views will be a little different when I have children of my own. lol

As a Catholic Christian I find this funny!
I'm not even going against my faith in doing so: this Puritanical attitude towards the body is foreign to Catholic Christianity, as it is rejecting what God made us to be. In fact, I think it's that very kind of attitude, that rejection of normal and healthy uses of the body like this, that leads to less savory things breaking out of that repression (like tasteless nudity, pornography, and skimpy clothing for no reason other than to show off one's assets publicly).
So brava to you for this and God bless you for supporting breastfeeding!

I seriously don't get how people get offended by breastfeeding. In many, many countries, the breasts are not even considered sexual in any way, and women going topless or breastfeeding publicly is perfectly normal and acceptable. That's what they're THERE for! People who think breasts are purely sexual organs and should never be exposed need to go back to biology class, and maybe have a few of their bits cut off if they can't help but see women's bodies as inherently sexual.
