Entry for the
FAChakats flag design competition.
Not exactly a flag, but more a symbol to represent Cait.
Even if it may or may not fall outside the rules of the competition I thought I'd put this up anyway as it might be of interest in one way or another.
Thinking about what I know about the Caitians I figured they seem to highly value their mating aspects and the family unit, around which their cultural beliefs seems to be based.
So I figured the Caitians might have elected to have their "religeous" symbol represent them within the federation.
Traditionally this symbol would have been fashioned from a copper plate with inlaid gold and hung over a banner that identified the family and later cities and countries.
These banners would have simply been animal hides, feathers, beadwork, wall carpets or a mix of those and those designs are still in use although usually no longer in their traditional forms aside from decorations in homes or places used for worship, otherwise the desings would be copied onto a flag.
This image just shows the symbol without any particular background or flag behind it.
While most often made with copper and gold, other materials would have been used sometimes to create these symbols. Sometimes a household would have this displayed in a visible place in their home and the firstwife would add a bead or gem into a socket for each new wife to join the "pride".
As such this symbol also became a status symbol since any visitor could see how many wives the household has.
Now to explain the symbol itself a bit more.
The first diamond that is on it's side, represents the husband while the others represent the firstwife, secondwife, etc... withthe large diamond representing the unity of the family.
But they also represent the aspects, or "The firsts" and the large diamondaround all of them represents the nameless godess
[The following bit is taken from "Caitian Confidential- General information about the Caitian race in the Chakat universe" ]
"There is a universal belief in a female supreme being who has no name because she existed before anything, including the need for names. She is referred to simply as the Goddess. She is said to have given birth to all of life, and she created males so that her children could give birth to their own offspring. Caitians believe in the First Pride, the first six females and the first male, who have been elevated to demigod status. They are:
Traiash, the male, who stands for Mediation.
Mentarkan, who stands for Intelligence. (Always the aspect for the firstwife)
Virdoana, who stands for Strength.
Nashar, who stands for Love.
Caitours, who stands for Fertility.
Ariz, who stands for Courage.
Raftir, who stands for wisdom. "
( I'll later post examples on how I think the symbols are also used on modern day Caitian ID to show marital status. )
