Andur, of course, is the Arabian-Nights-flavored city state of
baroncoon’s dreamworld. When the Andur dynasty took over the city of Malakakar, this is the flag it eventually adopted for the city-state. Baron described it to me and I whipped it up in Illustrator.
The purple represents the ruling Andur dynasty, the gold represents both the sand of the desert from which the Andur clan came and the wealth brought to the city by trade and commerce, and green represents both Islam and the agriculture made possible by the local microclimates. The black silhouetted date palm in the center alludes to the Andur clan’s journey through the desert. Looking for food, water, and nightly shelter, the clan followed the date palms scattered across the land, through the mountains, to a lower pass than they might otherwise have been forced to face; some people claim Allah Himself placed the date palms as signposts.
For the curious: the clan came south through the Sudan, probably more or less following the White Nile and skirting the Ethiopian highlands on the west. Likely they then turned east and worked their way past Lake Rudolf. Once out of the mountains and near the coast, they hooked back northeast and followed the shoreline to the bay.
The meerkats more or less had a monopoly on the date trade when the clan arrived. As a reward for the meerkats being among the first to recognize its claim over the city, the new dynasty officially acknowledged this monopoly. If you want dates in Andur, you get them from the meerkats.

I haven’t heard the latest theories about humans in the real world, so that may well be the case. In
baroncoon’s world, though, the intelligent species apparently appeared, more or less all at once, all over the world. It’s called The Event, and it drives scientists in that world crazy.
